Chris Quinn

Post#1 » by threrf23 » Thu Jun 19, 2008 11:27 pm

Chris Quinn could be an option for us as a back-up PG next season. By my statistical calculations, he was a decent player last season. I have him as the league's 39th most underutilized player last season 1 impressive in the sense he was playing on a team full of overutilized players.

Worst case, from what I can gather, he has been a good assist / TO man going back to his college days. Currently, I would assume that he is an underrated assist / TO guy. In April he averaged just under 7 assists per game and just under 2 TOs per game playing for the NBA-DL caliber Heat. On a team like that, assists are harder to come by because your teammates suck. TO's are more easily come by because your teammates are sloppy.

By similar logic, I'd say he's probably an underrated 3 point shooter. He shot just over 42% in April, just over 40% on the season. Put him in a better offensive system, and surround him with better offensive players, I would wager he gets better looks from beyond the arc and shoots closer to 50%.

Any Notre Dame fans or Heat fans or otherwise knowledgeable people here care to comment? I'm under the impression he's a free agent. If you Google his name, no one seems to think much of him. Shaq called him out along with Ricky Davis, but Shaq also said that KG didn't play defense.

Chris Quinn is TERRIBLE and doesn't belong in the NBA never mind backing up world champs. You have to throw out the statistics of guys who play on horrific teams. Chris Quinn actually tried to play on that team but he has no talent.

Quinn isn't worth looking at. we'd be better off putting Pruitt through growing pains as a backup PG.

TA would have put up 18/6/5 on that Miami team (if healthy). Believe it..

TA may have done better than that.

Don't get me wrong here. This isn't all about simple stat lines. Daequan Cook put up stats last April, and at other times in the season, and benefitted (+ / - wise) by getting some minutes alongside D-Wade and Shaq earlier in the season. But by my calculations, he sucked (ranked 330th overall), and many of his teamates weren't much if any better. But Chris Quinn scored better than anyone on the team outside of Shaq or D-Wade and overall ranked 110th, just behind TJ Ford.

Now I kinda get the sense that my calulcations tend to overrate some PGs that are also good three point shooters. But, I'm just curious to learn a little more about Quinn's game. The opinions expressed thus far in this thread are likely indicative of how he is viewed league wide. We would more than likely be able to land him for a minimal salary, and its possible we could start him on a 10-day, like Dahntay Jones last year.

... he isn't worth it. Danny isn't going to pick that guy up. Honestly I know you take pride in your statistics but his stats are created by being the only player who gave a dam* on that crappy team. And even then he only got burn because they had no one else until the Shaq trade (Banks) and Banks got hurt.

First off physically he is entirely overmatched. He is TINY with short arms and not much speed. Skill wise he can do the basics like handle the basketball and shoot the three. But his game is all heart and no talent. He rarely beats people off the dribble. He is not an extraordinary passer. He is reliant on general indifference from opposing guards. He is a less talented version of Dan Dickau. I doubt he sticks in the league.

We have three superior PGs on our team right now in Pruitt, House and TA. Yes that is the truth. I don't care about any statistics that claim he would be an upgrade for us. Sorry..

He's definitely an NBA player.

However, on a decent team he's a 3rd-string PG, and certainly not a difference maker. I wouldn't mind signing him for the minimum simply because he's a guy who comes ready to play every day with a great attitude.

But we're in trouble if he's our primary backup PG.

He's Dickau V2.0. No D, too small, too slow.
