Re: Posey Wants to Stay in Boston
If we re-sign Posey it won't be crazy to ask to use the MLE. We won't be using it for fun, we will be using it to fill out the roster with a back-up C and/or PG

How many times does this have to be said. The MLE will be used for Posey.

How naive to believe it isn't about money...

Re: Posey Wants to Stay in Boston
^^I know, which sucks. Isn't winning more important than an extra 2-3 million you'll make that really doesn't make a difference if you save? I know if I was an NBA player I could live easily the rest of my life because I wouldn't blow through the money like they do. But that's a moot point.
If Posey really cares about winning and contributing to a TEAM, he'll stay.

Can someone back me up here? Also, he's either gonna get big money or long years, he's not gonna get both from the C's. If some other team wants to use their full MLE on Posey and give him a 4-5 year contract, then by all means. Danny Ainge is not going to do this.
You're talking past each other.
The Cs can give Posey a nice contract without using the MLE.
They can give him a nicer contract than that using the MLE.
The issue is whether he'll insist on maximum annual salary or not. The other issue is whether -- since he has all the money he NEEDS, and is just working on the money he WANTS -- he gambles and plays a year or two more at short money so as to get his Bird rights restored.
Personally, I'd be willing to give him as long a contract as he wants if he's willing to take just the non-MLE raise, in the expectation that the early years of that deal would be a bargain and the later years might be dead money.
Finish your career here, James. Sign a long-term deal and move your family up here, if you haven't already.

We need Posey. He is valuable on Defense and as well as a sub when Pierce and or Allen gets in foul trouble. It is necessary that we resign Pose.

Welcome to the board ballboy.
Agree, we need Posey back- he hit some big threes for us, and hopefully he stays here.

Re: Posey Wants to Stay in Boston
Good points Fencer. That was what I was trying to address with the contract I laid out.
4 years is as long a contract as Posey can sign. Because of his age and the fact that he will be using a capped exception no matter where he signs he is limited to a 4 year as a 5 year deal will have the same cash value because of differed compensation.
Ainge is in a good position now because Posey has stated that he wants to stay and after last season also is quite clear on the market. If he wasn't open to the concept of a slight raise and more guaranteed years he would be talking about testing the market.

Re: Posey Wants to Stay in Boston
^^BIg Game James is lame since it's a rip-off of Worthy's nickname.
This is Glenn Robinson ripping-off Antoine Carr's "Big Dog" handle (for those of you old enough to remember!)

Don't relax quite yet. "I really want to stay. I love my team and everything about being a member of the team." is standard stuff. We even heard it from Asante Samuel.
All Posey has committed to is staying here if the money is equal. It doesn't mean he'll give a hometown discount.
That said, I think:
1. Management and ownership won't hesitate to pay him whatever he asks for if they think that's the best use of the available money.
2. They're unlikely to find a better use of the money.
However,
3. They may well find FAs such that, if Posey agrees to a non-MLE deal, the team will be better than if he insists on the MLE going to him. Perhaps that will sway him.

Agreed, Ainge has yet to lose a player he really wanted over money.

Re: Posey Wants to Stay in Boston
We can offer Posey 4 mil a year without using the MLE?
