Artest is a wing and we have Paul and Ray manning those positions. Sure he can play a 4 in a small ball lineup like Posey did, but that is a situational thing with very few consistent minutes available. Unless Artest is willing to truly be a 6th man then there is no way I'd want to bring that crazy train to Beantown.
Although he'd be great off the bench I just don't think you can ask someone who's certifiably insane to assume a role that they've been reluctant to perform in the past (remember he complained about mins when he was in Ind).
Don't forget Artest is still young and hasn't really cashed in on a big time payday yet. This isn't a guy who's on his last legs with only his legacy in mind. That's the difference between taking on a guy like Artest as opposed to a guy like Marbury

Artest will turn twenty-nine in November. So, he's looking probably at his last opportunity at a "payday" when his one-year expiries after next season. He'll be only two years younger than Posey who's thirty-one. Posey was thirty when he'd signed with Boston--one year older than what Artest will be at the start of next season.

Re: Celtics offered a trade for Artest
I heard an interview with Ron a couple of weeks ago right after this all started. There had somehow circulated this belief that Ron wanted to take less to be on winner. They ask him if he would be willing to take less to win a championship. I believe his actual response was "What? No, No not ever."
This isn't about the Lakers or the Knicks or any other team it is about money. He fired his agent because he told him not to opt out because he didn't think that the cap space was out there for him this offseason and it would be next year. Of course Ron sees what happens with Baron, Elton, and Corey and freaks out. But in the end his agent was probably right and he would have been picking between MLE offers and deciding what teams life he was going to make miserable because he would feel like he is underpaid.
