What about Maurice Evans? Perfect role player.
I like Maurice Evans as the perfect substitute for James Posey. Evans is the quintessential role playing wing because he plays with a ton of energy and can hit the open three. We need to get more athletic and Mo Evans has been known to throw down a couple of highlight reel dunks every now and then. He is versatile enough to the play the two and three spots.
Evans averaged 9 pts and 3 rebounds a game as the starting shooting guard for the Magic last season. He earned 1.7 million and I could see him signing a two year, four million dollar deal which is right up Ainge's alley.
Solid character guy who fills a need, has started in this league, and comes on the cheap.
Who is with me on this?

Re: What about Maurice Evans? Perfect role player.
I'd take him for a minimum salary, 1-year contract. You know that's what Danny's asking for too. Problem with Evans is that he's a small forward with a shooting guard's height, and he can't finish well at the rim. He's a decent 3 point shooter though.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

If Mo Evans had a bit better height/length I'd be right there with you. If we're going to deploy an undersized SF off the bench I'd rather we just re-sign Tony Allen, since IMO he's a better defender and a more dynamic scorer, albeit a much larger injury risk.

I like Evans, although he is a bit streaky with the 3 ball.
I'd much prefer to see him in Celtic Green than Lue or even Cassell (even though all players who were on the 17th banner winning team will be fondly remembered).

I'd have no problem with Evans coming in. He's a solid role player that could help this team.

Evans is a SG. I really don`t see much need for him. Just bring Tony back...

Perfect! He should be very hard to defend, and get lots of steals.

Evans can shoot the 3. I like TA, but Evans might be more valuable as a role player.

as a guy that watched a decent amount of laker games while mo was there, i can tell you he's pretty much marc blount jr. sometimes he gives you a great performance, but usually he's going to suck.
anything more than the vet minimum is overpaying for him.

If Mo Evans plays defense, it doesn't show up in his + / -, or counterpart PER, or even comments on message boards proclaiming him to be a good defender.
Of the offensive end, he's good but nothing special by any means.
Really, he's a poor man's JR Smith minus the upside that would come along with that. I don't think he'd give us anything that JR Giddens won't be able to give us.

The Celtics also gave up more points with Posey ON THE FLOOR than with him OFF THE FLOOR.
So what does that tell you? If you go by Posey's plus/minus, like you are doing with Evans, than Posey isn't a very good defender either, right?
Can't have it both ways when you use plus/minus.

Gonzo, that's because Posey is pretty crappy at defending Power Forwards, yet we played him at the 4 for most of his time.

Re: What about Maurice Evans? Perfect role player.
If you look at the overall picture defensively, Posey is perenially a respectable defender if not a great defender, and then yes there's the issue that Posey was asked to play out of position a lot this season, and many of his minutes came with KG out of the game...and then you also have a lot of onlookers who simply are able to say good things about his defense after watching him play.
If you look at the overall picture re: Mo Evans, he's been a crappy defender two years straight. And in context, he played a position that Magic lacked depth at last year and that was a perfect fit for him, and he played many of his minutes alongside Dwight Howard and the rest of the Magic's starting lineup - in fact, more than 80% of his minutes came alongside Dwight Howard. Close to 1/3 of Posey's minutes came alongside KG (he may have been matched up against other teams subs at times, but still, being on the floor in place of the DPOY affects + / -).
Thats kinda what I'm trying to get at.
