Free-agent forward Matt Barnes is scheduled to arrive in Phoenix Monday, expecting to sign a one-year veteran's minimum deal with the Suns after completing a physical.

only for the vet min?? thats kinda disappointing. I still got faith in Trader Danny though!! he will come through, be patient people.

Did Ainge ever show any interest in him anyway?

Like I said before, I really wouldn't be surprised if we don't sign anyone else.

Yawn....I'd much rather keep Tony Allen than sign Barnes (however at the mininum wouldnt have been bad). Anyway, Barnes doesnt make or break the division for us.

Given what he signed for I'm assuming no. Though maybe he has some roots/connection to Phoenix, I don't know.

Well, we have to sign one more guy after signing Giddens and more than likely it will be a wing. Just wait and see for now.

But what will become of the spirited debates we've had over Matt Barnes over the last couple of days?

I'm surprised he would sign for the minimum at 1 year still relatively early in FA. Must be there was virtually no interest in him.

Damn. You've to believe that Ainge simply didn't give a damn about Barnes if that's all it took to sign him. I'm stunned... :sigh:

Not to worried about it. Barnes is in a cluster of guys we can sign for the Vet min. I think Barnes is pretty overrated defensively. We will see how things shake out.

I would be ok with resigning Tony Allen. Then sign a guy like Nachbar or Finley to the Vet min.

I guess the Legend of Barnes has come to an end in Celtic land. Really, who cares? I just don't get all the hubub about this guy.

Whoa. Maybe there is something to this whole Euroleague thing. If Childress jumps, I'd be worried. All of the guys who have jumped so far have been players with past Euroleague experience. I think Nachbar would have been a decent choice for the Celtics, but it'd unlikely that we would have offered him even the MLE, or anything more than a year.

Well, Barnes had a higher PER than Posey last season. Does all the same things Pos did except shoot the three ball as well. Which has me thinking that now TA is resigning, is it possible Danny looks for a three point specialist at SF. Not sure who that could be though. Looking at the list of free agents, there just doesn't look to be anybody. We need a small forward. All that is left though is: Bonzi Wells, Quinton Ross, Maurice Evans (more of a 2), Kirk Snyder, Ryan Gomes, Devean George. A lot of has beens and never will be's. We could still try to throw the full MLE at Josh Childress and hope Atlanta does not match.

Barnes has no real ties to Phoenix, it just seems people thought his reputation ala Dennis Rodman in training would allow him to be there til all the free agents are off the board. Phoenix felt that Barnes has been on his best behavior on and off.
Barnes dictates defense in many ways and actually theres a stat somewhere that he deflects more balls per.. than any player in the NBA.. Deflections have to mean hustle, anticipation, and in some manner defensive effort.
For the minimum? I would take 7 of those guys coming off the bench.

That's disappointing. I would have loved to have Barnes at the min, even with us re-signing TA. Oh well.
