Higgins said he felt it was crucial for the Bobcats to retain Okafor, their best defensive player at the rim. “You need that big guy to defend the Tim Duncans, the (Shaquille) O’Neals, the (Kevin) Garnetts,’’ Higgins said. “The big guys control the game in the post, and that’s our guy when it comes to doing that. “The way this team is set up with (new coach) Larry (Brown), this was important. Larry is very defensive-oriented.’’ Charlotte Observer

Okafor wouldn't be guarding Garnett... He would likely be guarding Perkins. How's Okafor going to defend against the length, range and quickness of Garnett? In the east, the Bobcats should be more concern about Brand, Randolph and Howard than Jamison, Garnett and R. Wallace who all can beat you outside and draw you away from the box. Which is what you want to happen if you're the opponent and not to happen if you're Okafor and company. They lose their interior defender.

he is worth between 8-10 million a year, great defender and rebounder, strong down low. They overpaid 2-4 million, not a great deal but not horrible, at least they didnt max him out, still I would have offerd him 6 years 60 million or 5 years 55. not 6 72.

I just don't think a trio of J-Rich/Wallace/Okafor can take you to the promised land. They either need to develop a great team defense, a la Houston/Detroit, and/or hope that Brandan Wright becomes that missing piece.
They traded Brandan Wright to GS for Richardson. If he's their missing piece theyre ****ed.

The restricted free agent system that allowed Childress to go to Europe, allows teams like the Bobcats to keep the guys Europe doesn't sign.

Okafor graduated in 2.5 years (officially three, but he only took one class his final semester, which he needed to do to be eligible to play). He finished with a 3.8 GPA. His major? Finance.
He can take his 72 million and probably turn it into hundreds before he's retired from the NBA and moves on to his second career, whatever he may choose. I'm sure he doesn't need anyone's financial advice.
P.S. He got a B in that one course referenced above, when he just studied the textbook for a week and took the final exam without attending the class. It was a calculus class that he had to take for his major, but he felt his time was more valuable than his specific letter grade, so he took the hit to his GPA in order to save some time.
