Ranking the C's

Post#1 » by MVP16 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 7:31 pm

I thought it would be interesting to see how people rank the current Celtics in terms of their defensive and offensive impact. I didn't include the rookies, Pruitt or O'Bryant because they haven't played enough to really judge.

Here are my rankings:

Defensively:
1. KG
2. Perkins
3. Rondo
4. Pierce
5. TA (healthy)
6. Big Baby
7. Scalabrine
8. Ray Allen
9. House
10. Powe

Offensively:
1. Pierce
2. KG
3. Ray Allen
4. Rondo
5. TA (healthy)
6. Powe
7. House
8. Perkins
9. Big Baby
10. Scalabrine

I agree with most

Defensively
1) KG
2) Perk
3) Rondo
4) Pierce
5) TA [never healthy so losses points]
and here's where I vary
6)House
7) Ray Allen* [unless playing against rivals Rip Hamilton or Kobe, then he's top 5 otherwise... I still have visions of Wally Z owning him]
8)Powe
9) Big Baby
10) Scal "DNP-Teamgoodnow" abrine

Offensively
1)Pierce
2)KG
3)Ray
and here's where I vary
4) TA
5)Powe
6) Rondo
7) House[if it is the regular season Rondo>House but in playoff defense mode House> Rondo since Rondo isn't guarded because he sucks]
8) Big Baby
9) Perkins
10) Scalabrine

Also I should not that I think this is the people were are going to see with our rotations. Lots of House, little bit of Scal.. Doc usually doesn't play non-vets or non-proven guys. Hell sometimes he doesn't even play guys like Powe till 2months into the regular season let alone busts like O'Byrant or rookies. Somewhere near the halfway mark of the season we will see other guys get more time and then in teh playoffs who knowes. Hopefully someone comes in and takes Scalabrine off the court.

I would agree with your rankings but I would move PP up to number 2 on defense this year and move Davis down. Rookies get no respect and he missed alot of defensive assigments. He provided energy and effort though. I like Baby overall. Scal didn't play enough to be ranked except for bench decorum where he ranked number 1! Good rankings though.

These are my order of the best to the rest. I'm not including Pruitt, O'Bryant, Davis, Powe, Scalabrine or the rookies.

On defense... Garnett, Pierce, T. Allen, Perkins and Rondo. Honorable mention: R. Allen

On offense... Pierce, R. Allen, Garnett, House and Rondo. Honorable mention: T. Allen

I agree with bonsai, except I'd push Powe up to 5, and knock rondo out of the list for best offense.

My thinking there was that Rondo can create his own shot or offense and he just chooses or prefers to look for teammates. He defers his offense. On the other hand, Powe is a decent offensive threat in the post, but I see him more as a player that needs his teammates to look for him down low or during a fast break.

Scal is much better defensively then you guys are giving him credit for. <g> He is pretty good at the team D thing and he hustles.

I rarely if ever see Scal succeed defensively. I do remeber him givening up lots of crappy touch AND-1 fouls to top off his poor defense.

Powe may not succeed defensively but at least he puts in the effort where he actually draws a lot of offensive fouls. So in that respect I think Powe is underrated defensively. Those offensive fouls draw are killers. And he draws a large amount of them for the time he is in the game.

I also agree that Rondo has a defered offense that can't be discounted. Much like KG's can't.
