ot: thinking of coming to Boston this weekend

I have some time off and I'm thinking of coming to New England for a few days. I don't have a car, so I'll be coming by train (from New York) and I was wondering if you could give me some information on where to go, what to do etc. There are apparently 2 train stations (one is in Downtown Boston near the financial district and the other one at 145 Dartmouth St.). Where should I get off if I want to walk around and see the city? Also, where would it be a good idea to stay?

I'm thinking of traveling in NE for a few days and after Boston I've been either thinking of going to Maine or Cape Cod. Any suggestions on where else I can go? Also, if I decide to go to one of those locations what would be the best (fast, cheap and comfortable) way to get there if I don't have a car?

Either of those train stations are fine, both are within walking distance of the common, both have stops on the subway. The one in the financial district is South Station and is a major hub for buses and trains. So if your thinking about taking the peterpan bus somewhere you might as well check out South Station right off the bat. But if the Back Bay train is cheaper then by all means take it. You'll be right by the prudential center.

I'd recommend buying a map of the city once your here, the cities really walkable and I'd recommend taking advantage of it. Check out www.mbta.com. You can checkout the map of the subway, checkout the ferry schedules to get out to the cape, and look into the commuter rail if your thinking of going to Providence.

but seriously, theres a bunch of stuff to do. like 15th said, you can always spend 2 days just exploring the city, thatd be my recommendation.
Downtown/Faneuil Hall to do tourist stuff. Allston/Brighton for a younger, more college vibe. North End if your into Italian living. If it's nice you gotta just go walk the Charles.

If you wanna get a bit out of the city you can't go wrong with the Cape this time of year.
You could take the bus(like $20) down to Hyannis and take a ferry to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard(prob $15).
or you could take the boat to P-Town for a crazy day.
I know your from NY so im not sure of the allegiances, but Toronto's at Fenway this weekend.

Initially more toward Worcester with some relatives until we settle down, then need to find a place not too bad a commute from my new job, which is in the Westwood/Dedham area.

Can't wait!

Thanks man. I'm looking forward to it. I was born and raised in NH about an hour north of Boston, finished school in 2006, came down here to the south (SC) for a 2 year fellowship and got a job back in the Boston area...movin' in 2 weeks!

Thanks. I usually print out maps from yahoo when I go somewhere on vacations but all the information you gave me was really helpful. I might cancel my trip because of the bad weather but I'm not really sure yet.

Thanks, what's what I'm planning to do anyway, if I make it that is (the weather looks really bad tonight). I'm 29 and I listen mostly to experimental/electronic music, post rock and other absurd genres The truth is that I was planning to go see the Battles on Saturday in NY, but I'd rather leave the city for a few days.
