I agree with the original post. Pierce's conditioning has always been a question mark. I was really encouraged with his comments after he got to see Ray Allen's regime first hand and I thought that Pierce was committed to change.

However, Pierce also never gets injured save for Tankapalooza "07 so it is difficult to criticize his methods. I do worry that as Pierce gets older he might start to suffer more injuries whereas other players with more of a dedication to fitness might not. Most of the NBA Players who play into old (NBA) age are health nuts. Pierce usually carries a little extra.

With all of that said, there are Celtics fans who are still partying 2 months later after that season so you can imagine how it must feel for a guy like Pierce who has been here for years. I can imagine it is a lot more fun for Pierce to go out as a NBA Champ and Finals MVP than it was to go out as the chubby scowl-faced captain of a 30-something win team.

Maybe we'll see some pics of him with some attractive women for once

Anyways, yeah, as a fan I obviously wish he was in the gym shadowing Ray Allen getting ready for next year, but we have all read the articles and heard the interviews. Pierce is not KG or Ray Allen, and doesn't have OCD-influenced preparation rituals. He is what he is, given the success he's had, it's probably too much to expect him to change at this point in his career.

I think it is massively presumptuous to assume that "partying" and "working out" are mutually exclusive things...

In both LA and Vegas Pierce can go to Impact Basketball and train at one of the best facilities in the world...just because he goes out at night doesn't mean we have a damn clue as to what he's doing in the morning and afternoon...acting like a headline that states Pierce was at a club means he sat around all day, ate fried chicken and biscuits, and then drank 2 gallons of vodka--for 2 straight months---is absurd...as is the notion that Pierce "played himself into shape" last season....

Pierce doesn't have one of those highly muscle-toned body types, but he continually leads the team in the conditioning drills every year...the only time I saw him noticeably out of shape was when he came back from the foot injury...Pierce was on the cover of ESPN the Magazine 2 years ago with his shirt off and was lean as hell--and people STILL acted like he was doughy because he doesn't look like Leon Powe...

While he certainly may not be training like Ray and Kevin, I have little doubt that he'll be prepared for the regular season...I don't think its coincidence that he's been so durable his whole career while playing heavy minutes and having so much responsibility on-ball...the guy works out...

His first child was born about a month before mine. I can't imagine he's had the energy for too much partying.

And when, other than after his first major injury of his career, has conditioning been an issue for Paul? Is that why he's traditionally been a league leader in minutes played and fourth quarter scoring?

ARRGGHH! Pierce said in an interview about three weeks ago (I believe the boston globe) that he hasn't been training yet and plans to start in a couple of weeks.

Wow, threads like this are driving good posters away? hahaha, you have absolutely no freaking idea what you are talking about. None. Zip. Zippo.

I know what drove the good posters away but I don't feel like getting into it. :-?

I'm with canman, this thread is just plain stupid and frustrating. What do posters get for calling your lame OP? "Oh, you must like balls!" Get a clue.

Thats funny, because on Mike&Mike this morning he just said he'd been training all summer in Vegas.

^ Yep. Pierce said he's been working out from 8 in the morning until 4 p.m. So Gonzo, is it ok for Paul to party after he's worked out for 8 hours? Because he has plenty of time to party after his workouts. So long as he's doing what he's supposed to (which he is) he can party all he wants as far as I'm concerned as long as he stays out of trouble (which he has been doing).

That being said, he said he doesn't even party that much anymore, especially since his daughter came along.

So I guess he wasn't partying for TWO STRAIGHT MONTHS after all.

....Per M&M in the Morning, my hypothetical scenario was correct...Pierce has been training all summer in Vegas...

Pierce doesn't get ripped but he usually doesn't come in fat. He likely sits around 10% body fat instead of 5% like a Tony Allen or Leon Powe. Personally I disagree a bit with BFB. I think he could get ripped if he changed his diet a little. He is pretty strong and quick so he has the right kind of build. He just needs to watch his diet a little more. My bet is too many carbs which is Scalabrine's undoing as well..

I *do* think Pierce might have let it get to his head a bit too much this summer, but can ya blame him???
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Pierce, if you guys remember, up until like 02-04 was more ripped. but I think it was when Danny took over they suggested he add some mass. That way he could utilize his best offensive part of his game, driving to the hoop, for much longer in his career.

I'm not going to judge his workout regime this summer until the season starts.

I will say though that I've heard more of Pierce this summer in the news and hosting/participating in television shows than I have either Garnett or Allen.

But that doesn't mean he's not working out. The biggest concern I have for Pierce is that he'll continue to lose a lot his speed- he's clearly a step slower than he used to be in terms of quickness, and that's to be expected with age- I'm just hoping that he hasn't become slower this season.

Pierce said on Mike and Mike this morning that he has been working out for about a week now from 8 am to 4 pm and playing pickup games. So all those with concerns can breath a sigh of relief.

Honestly though, I don't understand people's concerns. Paul HAS NOT been partying as much as poeple though. You heard about 2 or 3 times he's been out and that means he's been partying all summer long? LOL

And I don't ever remember Paul having a problem with conditioning.
