I'd like for Ray to retire a Celtic. However, if the Celts were to receive an offer for something like Rudy Fernandez and Lafrentz's huge expiring deal, they'd be crazy to turn it down (alternatively, Portland would be crazy to make this offer, so please don't flame me with the "Portland would never do this trade").
Red Auerbach was extremely loyal to the original big 3. However, it slowed down the rebuilding process. Ainge won't make that mistake by attaching sentimental value to his players.
Does anyone else not want to see Ray Allen traded?

BUT - I don't want him staying if he's going to be wanting around a 20 million a year salary, because that will only hurt the team into the future. Reggie Miller made the most money of his career when he was 35,36, and 37, so I'm not so sure we can bank on Ray taking a paycut at the age of 34.

It all depends on how long Ray sees himself playing. He probably wants to play for at least 4 more years and would be looking for a sweetheart deal to exit with. I think your suggestion of 13 million would likely be fine, but ideally we'd want him to play for even less.
He may want $20 million per year, but he won't get it at that point in his career. Most teams that are under the cap are not contenders. You'd assume he'd want to go on a team that is capable of contending and I don't see him taking the MLE. Portland could be an option, but he did say he has family and friends near the Boston area and he is familiar with the team so it would make sense for him to stay a Celtic. I couldn't imagine Portland offering him much more than $13 million. Both Rondo and Perkins will likely be getting pay raises by the fifth season, so you'd still be rewarding him while reducing it enough that the salary wouldn't be too high. If Boston does not trade him, Allen will very likely be a Celtic the remainder of his career.
Excellent points. I guess the real question is what is the lowest salary he'd take, and what would we do with the extra head room?

no way, no how
i want to see his deal expire, him resign for an appropriate deal, and retire here
i want PP, KG, RA, all retiring as celtics...and rondo...and bill walker and powe (maybe the last two are a stretch, im starting to get homer-ish)

I would be surprised if we traded Ray. GPA have established a leadership team that will carry the Celtics a long way. Garnet has already renegotiated his salary down for the team. And I'd expect the rest of the three to follow suit. They have more money than they need already.
I think GPA are starting to think more in terms of legacy.

We are not trading Ray Allen unless he asks to be traded. He will play out his deal and either re-sign or retire.
We can replace Ray just as easily with the salary flexibility we will have after his deal expires we don't need to tear up a team competing for a title, it is about now not 2 or 3 years from now until PP and KG hang up their sneakers.

I had a dream the other night we traded him to the suns for what first was reported as Shaq and Nash but then changed to just Nash. I was a little upset when I heard he got traded but then thought Perk/KG/Pierce/Tony/Nash was awsome and said I could live with it. Unfortunatly we are not going to get Nash for Allen so I say keep him.

LOL. That is great. Now that is a hardcore fan dreaming about his team. I had dreams when I have played for the celtics. That is the only way it would happen of course.
