I just thought of something, I thought I remembered the Pacers carrying 15 other players when Artest was suspended...will Miles count against the 15 man roster when the season starts? If not, we may just carry all 16 for the first 10 games and then make a decision.
I feel like it comes down to Scal, Pruitt, or Cassell.
Eating Scal's contract wouldn't be such a big deal - not much difference between paying him to be the 15th man and paying him to be the 16th man. We couldn't use his expiring as trade ballast then, but his salary is small enough that it's no big deal.
Pruitt's an ok prospect, but we can always find another combo guard to develop - might not be worth carrying him on the roster at the expense of a veteran who could contribute.
And obviously Cassell might confirm that he is so washed up that he's not worth keeping...
Will Miles take up a roster spot while he is suspended?

Not only will he take up one of the 15 roster spots it appears he will also take up one of the 12 active spots each game.
The Artest situation is different as he was suspended indefinitely and at minimum the entire season. I don't know the rules of this but my guess is at that point a team is given a roster exemption as if the player was injured.
