Celtics on NBA TV Saturday
Celtics are on NBA TV on Saturday at 4:30. DVR is all set and ready to go! Hope they show some scrimages, or more scrimage footage than what we've seen on CSN so far. Really interested to watch the new guys. Especially POB and Miles. Can't wait for this season to start...

Thanks for the heads-up. Since we're talking about TV coverage, does anyone know if the pre-season games are going to be carried by FSNE?

No NBATV here.
I really could use a fix. Just one Bill Walker dunk in a Celtic uni could get me through. Promise.

Re: Celtics on NBA TV Saturday
I actually watched it on the net.
Not much to see really in 2 hours...A lot of drills but only a few minutes of scrimmage. Some random observations:
- everybody looks in great shape (especially Pierce and Ray)
- POB looks like a nice addition on defense but offensively he couldn`t even score on Big Baby. I don`t think we can count on him to give us some post up game but he did hit a nice jumper, so that is a part of his game where he can help us on offense.
- Gabe Pruitt played a lot at SG and he looked good
- Giddens looked lost again in the drills
- Walker was invisible but at least he knew the plays, same with Miles...
- Perk looked great. He dunked the ball in drills without a problem, so he is ready to play they are just being cautious with him...
- Rondo looks much stronger
- Cassell was more of a spectator and a coach
- Tony looked healthy but offensively he just tried to do too much...

Re: Celtics on NBA TV Saturday
I watched it. It's hard to follow because there are a lot of stops and starts, and you don't know where the producers are cutting the film. I guess the team looked good, but how do you know? The only specifics I could come away with were:
1. Powe played really physically against KG. He was playing hard;
2. No idea what the significance of this is, but it seemed to me that the "second unit" at the beginning of drills was Eddie, Tony, Powe, Baby and WALKER;
3. Baby kind of looked lost to me;
4. Pruitt did really well, and Sam did nothing;
5. POB was ok;
6. Everyone definitely gets along with each other.
Finally, in the interview with Ainge, he talked about Miles getting a chance and playing games "for another team or us" this year (or something like that). Read into that what you will.

Re: Celtics on NBA TV Saturday
Ainge was saying that Miles can play for a team this year if he wants too. I think he makes the team. He has some size and doesn't look lost out there. His athleticism is not really back though.
My other impressions..
It's a shame we didn't see more in the scrimmage - from what I saw Walker is pretty friggin built - but he didn't do that much. Giddens looks a bit lost at times. But how much can you expect from rooks at this point.
Pruitt still looks good. I don't see how you can really cut him. He is like an Eddie House out there - guy can fill it up.
POB is a keeper. Honestly I am kinda surprised GS cut him. Okay he isn't really THAT skilled but he is just so tall with long arms. He finished over BBD without jumping LMAO. And he moves pretty well. His size/athlete ratio is impressive and he isn't TOTALLY lost.. Much like Perkins (I know this irks the PERK IS THE SECRET WEAPON CROWD) but he can make a living just by being out there and not sucking with his size.
Powe looked pretty good but seems to get a bit bored at the mental side of it - but in fairness those drills look pretty boring. PP is one of those - I must always win kind of guys. <g> The clear alpha dog of the Cs..
Go Cs - I am pretty pumped for the season. We got some cool sub-plots like the return of Darius Miles ( to stick them for the Telfair trade) ; the reclamation of Don Nelson's whipping boy and the rise of Pruitt (the guy Jack loves) and best of all Tony talking smack (with hopes he can back it up)..

A couple of other notes:
Danny said the team would be thrilled if (the current version of) Patrick OBryant was their first round draft choice entering camp this year.
Ainge also said that Rondo, Perkins, Baby, Powe, and Tony Allen are all much better players than they were last season.

What does this even mean? He couldn't even score against Big Baby as if Big Baby is a bad post defender. IMO, Davis is a very good defensive post player. He did a good job guarding taller players like Big Z and Gasol last season.
2 things that make Davis a good low post defender despite his ack of height are:
1. He is very strong and uses his bulk and strength to move out the offensive player. He doesn't let guys establish position close to the basket.
2. He has quick feet and uses his feet to move well against taller, bigger guys. This also allows me to get behind the post player and push him out of their comfort zone in the low post.
I'm sorry but there is no way POB, who weighs about 250 lbs, is going to establish the position he wants against Davis, who is about 310 lbs and strong as an ox. People don't realize how strong Davis is. As a 15 year old, he body slammed Shaq. The guy has power and is very diffucult to move.

I actually agree with what you said. Even Duncan and Ilgauskas couldn`t back Davis down, so that was not my problem with POB. What was worrying was that he looked completely lost in the post. He could barley hold position and was panicking when he got the ball. It looked like he had no idea what to do with it...I just don`t see him as a post scorer or back to the basket kind of player...With his height I hoped he could give us some low post game from the bench but he looks like a jump shooting big man...of course, I only saw a few minutes, so I need to see more of him...

Re: Celtics on NBA TV Saturday
thebirdman, I agree that POB should help out on defense and rebounding. It should help him play along side KG, just like it did for Perkins last season. IMO, POB is a better finisher that Perkins but Perkins has a better offensive game.
POB, IMO needs to get stronger and work on his post moves. He needs to be better at establishing post position. In college he was good at that but he will struggle against stronger defenders. But unlike at G.S., POB has people in Boston willing to work with him. Cillford Ray should be able to help his game.
