Mavs to buy out Eddie Jones

Post#1 » by eitanr » Wed Oct 8, 2008 2:57 pm

This is per the wiretap under the Dallas Mavericks.

Eddie Jones may be waived in the near future by the Boston Celtics. Now I know what many of you will say... Every time someone gets waived why do we always post that now the C's can get him? The thing is we are the top team in the league, led by a solid group of vets, and can easily attract free agents vets such as soon to be Eddie Jones to our team.

It seems like Boston should look to acquire Jones IF Walker and Giddens are not ready for the big show by the playoffs.

Jones could be a late addition ala PJ Brown last season. Posey helped Boston last year in 2 ways: as a 4 in the small lineup that can stretch the floor and play small ball with, and as a 3 who can play lock down D. Miles and Jones could both together replace the production that Posey brought to this team.

Jones is a wait-and-see. If half way through the season it makes sense then sure but there is no room right now.

I'm with Hemingway on this one. Lets see what Giddens, Walker, and Miles can do before we go get someone like Eddie Jones.

On a side note with Eddie Jones off the Mavs, perhaps old friend Gerald Green will make that squad.

I think from a Dallas perspective EJ was already the 5th wing in that rotation (Howard/Wright/Stack/George). I feel they'd rather have a prospect like GG in that slot than EJ, a decreasing in talent vet.

Does he really have a 16th season left in him?

I agree he's someone to look at halfway through the season if no one else picks him up. Maybe that's the new thing for the 36-39yr vet set: take the first half of the season off and sign with a contender.

When Eddie Jones was an all-star he was one of the more notable players to disappear in the playoffs.

I wonder if he would continue to shy away from the big stage when the lights are on.

Eddie Jones is done. His game relied on athleticism, athleticism which he no longer possesses. D-O-N-E.
