Darius Miles is overweight

Post#1 » by return2glory » Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:25 pm

Darius Miles looks about 20-30 pounds heavier than when we used to be since about 2 years ago. I'm not saying he is fat or anything, but the guy used to be really thin. He has bulked up a little but seems flabby.

This isn't good news considering he is coming off a huge injury. If he can get about 20 pounds off, he will be more explosive. Here is a picture. Look at the stomach area.

He looks pretty thin - seriously. I suggest you calibrate your TV. I am not kidding. However i will say that his conditioning is not ideal yet. It's more a skinny fat....which is pretty bad but I think Bryan Doo will rememdy that. I remember when Kenny Anderson came back from a pretty bad injury. He had the same kinda look.

I don't think you guys understand what I'm saying. He doesn't look overweight compared to many players. He looks overweight or heavier that before he got injuried.

It's like Michael Cooper. He was always very skinny. He was 6'7, and about 176 pounds nearly his entire career. Miles had the same type of frame. Miles is 6'9 and had always been about 205-215. He looks about 240 now. He is about 20-30 pounds heavier that his normal playing weight.

240? That's how much Al Jefferson weighs. There's no way Miles is that heavy. Maybe 225, max. Remember too that a full season in the NBA will likely thin any extra baggage developed while he was injured.

There is a silver lining to Darius not being ripped yet - it means he has some athletic improvement that can come from a commitment to fitness. A guy who is ripped but can't explode (think Wally) is probably done..

Exactly. That is what I'm saying. Darius still needs to get into better shape, and once he does it should improve his explosiveness. I hope Darius makes this team because he is a lot better than Scal.

I get that he is not in basketball shape. But he is not in non-basketball shape either. I think some athletes think they are working out hard when in reality they are not. Could also be bad diet. He doesn't have that 20-year old metabolism anymore. Or it just could be that he is limited in his workouts trying to save his knees for basketball. But if I had to guess, I'd guess bad diet.

I think that despite the work of coaches and staff most ballers who stop playing basketball quickly fall out of basketball shape. <g> The diet of many of these pro athletes is rather awful - as they burn so many calories playing hoops they can eat far less nutrional food per calorie and get away with it...

So it's probably true that Miles has a "bad diet" by fitness standards - but I think most ballers fall into that trap. Even worse they don't down regulate calories when they are laid up. Darius was laid up for two years - that's probably why he turned to diet pills as despite what people say those things do make you less hungry, IMHO.

The new weight on Miles is good IMO
The only shot he has is at the 4---and he could really help us there
He is not able to guard 3's

Thats fine, his game becomes more Joe Smithish
He looks done at the 3, but is plenty long and now bulky enough to handle 4's
I would love to seem him comeback and be a solid contributor
