I watched him play a few games. He is officially done. Scalabrine will be a good trade bait for a bad contract next year.

What's most shocking about this move is that people are shocked by it. Did you really think ha had a good chance of making the team?

It was obvious that it was going to be between him and Giddens. Scal's contract was always going to make him stay here. And, btw, that contract is not as much of an aberration as people make it out to be. There are much worst cases around the league - almost every team has at least one of those. On top of it, Scal, overpaid as he may be, is a better practice player I'm sure, and a better defender. Now back to Giddens -- more upside, guaranteed contract. That leaves Miles out. He's cooked. There's really nothing to miss there. Next year we can shop Scal's contract.

Outside of a few plays Darius was pretty bad. Not Scalabrine bad. But not good enough to make it worth buying out Scal's contract.

Speaking of Scal and Darius, did you notice how every time Scal passed the ball to Miles it was at his ankles?

He's not as bad a player as some fans make him out to be...

If he wasn't paid what he gets, I suspect that allot of the criticism would subside?... .

If he wasn't getting paid what he gets, he wouldn't have made it to training camp, meaning all criticism would be gone along with him. That being said, this was an obvious choice.

C'mon everyone. I know every one of us is disgusted with Scal, but seriously what did Miles actually do to stay on this team? I'd rather give Walker a steady dose of minutes and ease Giddens in at SF and stick with Powe and Baby at PF. Right now you have to pay Scal anyway so keep him in street clothes until his contract becomes an advantage.
I think the Scal hate and the Miles sentimentality is fueling the negative reaction, much like people were sentimental about Jay Williams and Bobby Hurley. Even his former teammate Donny Marshall saw the writing on the wall, noting Miles' marked decline in athleticism.
I hope Miles can stick elsewhere for the same reason everybody else does, but he is not a loss to the Celtics.

He is a pretty good defensive player... Doc and Ainge singled him out for that... He has a confidence problem but I wouldn't call him a waste of space.

This was the right move.

All things equal I keep Miles over Scalabrine but all things are not equal.
Yes Scalabrine is overpaid but we can't change that now and scals is not an easy trade until next season as an expiring contract. Buying out scals is a possibility but it better be for good reason.
If Miles was playing well enough to crack the rotation I think we make a trade or cut cassell or buy out Scals. Miles was very unimpressive from what I saw so the team weighed the options.

As it is only 12 players will suit up any given day with 3 others either DNP's or D-league.

Neither Scals or Miles would get much playing time barring 2-3 major team injuries. How could we justify burning 7million dollars to oust Scals and keep Miles when neither would see much time at all.

Let's break it down
We have our starting five.( who outside Perk will see bulk of minutes)
** Perk, KG, PP, RAY, Rondo

Backups 6 through 10 all better than Scals and Miles.
** T. Allen, Powe, House, O'Bryant, Walker

Then we have 5 spots for 6 players (after cut) with only 2 rotation spots.
** Cassell, Pruitt, Giddens, Davis, Miles, Scals

This last category could go so many different ways but anyway you go neither Miles nor Scals were going to get much playing time either way. So from a GM/coach/Ownership standpoint do you cut the nonguarenteed contract of Miles or do you waste 7 million to cut Scals just to keep Miles on this championchip squad so he can average 5 minutes a game. If Miles was a Posey-like 6th man I say yes but he's an 11th or 12th man at best. This was the right move.

Circumstances made this the right call. He will make a team and he probably will put up some decent numbers but not on this great team. I wish him well.

In Danny we trust. I feel bad for the guy but his basketball career isn't anywhere close to where it once was and while I agree Scal can make my blood boil sometimes - he is a vet, a solid role model, well spoken guy, good for our younger guys and most importantly good to use for trades.

Miles needed to crack top 10 on roster but failed to do so which was obvious after several preseason games. I think he is worth a relook in Dec/Jan when he is fully rehabbed. I think he will probably not get picked up elsewhere and if that is the case then he might be a late season option like PJ was last year.

The team still needs a veteran replacement for Posey or a small 4 to fill the Horry type role. Can Miles be that guy? Apparently not although maybe when knee is fully rehabbed he might.

I still see a trade of Scal plus Big Baby or Leon plus a pick or Giddens/Walker down the road.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Understandable cut.

The only player on the roster he was better than was Scal. He didn't score, rebound, or defend(a couple of blocks doesn't make you a good defender) well enough to warrant any playing time. It was down to the scrub with the guaranteed contract (Scal) versus the scrub with a non-guaranteed contract (Miles).
Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

I have a feeling that he will be hanging around the Celtics practice facility, I forget the name is it Healthpoint? He works out with the team and maybe if we trade some peeps he gets resigned or he gets into shape for another crack at it next year?

I'm glad that he left on good terms and that DA and Doc cut him loose sooner rather than later. Celtics are doing a phenomenal job of running a top notch organization. Miles now knows what it will take to make a roster and hopefully down the road he will take that into consideration if he turns out to be as good as he's capable of.

I do hope Miles can find a spot with us later in the season after we have killed and buried Cassell (you with me, tombattor? )...I'd love to see him play in just 10 games so he can royally screw Portland's cap...would be awesome!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
