MLE Free Agent options for 2009 or 2010

Post#1 » by LarryBrdismyDad » Thu Nov 6, 2008 6:31 am

What do people think of these far fetched ideas for this coming summer and next. I know the odds are low on these deals but I would love it if we could get some of these guys.

Summer of 2009
Rasheed Wallace - 1 yr MLE deal

Summer of 2010
Marcus Camby - 1 yr MLE deal
Shaquille O'Neal - 1 yr MLE deal

I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world to give one of these 3 big guys a chance in the next few years. Big men don't just grow on trees and these three are all still talented. Wallace is only 35 next yr, Camby would be 36 in 2010, and Shaq would be 38 in 2010. I think Shaq could be unreal if we only played him 20 to 25 minutes a game with Perk getting the rest. I think Shaq wants another ring badly and could fit right in on this team. He has deferred to guys on the Suns and I think he would do the same here. He also provides a post presence who can score in the paint which we lack right now IMO. Most of Pierces scoring comes on drives and mid range jumpers and 3's. Most of Kg's pts come on jumpers and fadeaways. I think Camby could really help us out as well when KG goes to the bench. We really don't have a weakside shotblocker on this team besides KG. I think KG and Camby together could also patrol the paint. IMO we have a three year window 2009-2011 to get more titles and we need to maximize the potential of that window which these moves do. All three of these players need to take massive paycuts and I think all 3 still want to win a title especially Shaq who is looking to get more rings than Duncan.

I was thinking Shaq in '10 before I even read it. It makes sense. HE'll want to go out on top with a ring. We'll want to extend the big 3's dominance another year. After everyone sees how well Alonzo Mourning worked out for us in the '09 playoffs, getting another big time big will be necessary.

I figured Shaq would retire after his contract with Phx is up. Sheed would be interesting. I remember Ainge tried to trade for him before the Pistons were able to get him but Sheed let it be known he would not welcome a trade to Boston. Having his buddy KG here could change his opinion about Boston I would think.

Shaq said recently he wasn't retiring after his contract is up. That would be crazy to see him in Green. I can't honestly picture it. Maybe he'd do it. He knows bball history and really looks up to Russell. He'd provide some GREAT comedy.

Ditto. My thought was Shaq would retire after his time in Phoenix and pursue something else away from basketball. Also, I know he and Hill desire to be a part of a buying team to attempt to purchase the Magic franchise.

Sheed is too good to be true.
If KG could convince him to come here and be part of a 4man frontcourt rotation with himself plus Perk and Powe, wow. inside, outside, defense, its perfect. There wouldn't be enough minutes unless you played Powe or Garnett at the 3 some and had a BIG lineup to close games out though. but still, it's fun t dream.
