Think of how much more time A I needs the ball than Chauncey to be effective. I bet chauncey could average 7+ assist if he pounded the ball 40 minutes a game. I understand the salary dump for both teams. No one has landed a stud FA to get them a title except LA w. shaq so I like your idea of the disgruntled player in the last year of his contract. I wonder who they are targeting?

Billups does avg 7 assists a game and he has essentially the same usage rate as AI 23% to 26%. This isn't 2004 and Larry Brown is in Charlotte Billups has been pounding the ball in the Pistons offense for the past 3 seasons. AI isn't the same guy he was in PHI either. He is much more efficient and just as explosive. He isn't getting any younger but either is Billups and his athletic ability and body type is on another level than Chauncey who is going to get very old very fast.

To me the biggest thing that happens with this move is that Rip can use about half as much energy and be able to spot up as the defensive focus is on AI unlike him running around like a chicken with his head cut off as Billups backs his man down or plays the two man game.

You really can't evaluate this trade until free agency. Detroit has been successful enough that Dumars can take the gamble of going one step back before going two steps foward. Assuming one of the big stars might come to detroit its an interesting gamble. lord knows good players at almost every position is going to be available assuming the people from the at class that did the 3 year deal dont resign. Given the oung guys he has he has a lot of flexibility and how to rebuild the team. Of course one can take the other course and say after years of having an anemic bench, an underrated cause of all their flame outs, Detroit has a great bench and are letting past failures cloud how good their starters are.

while everyone targets Lebron, Dumars might sneak in and grab Amare in 2010

Amare

So far the AI to Detroit trade looks like a winner for Denver. AI's "defense" last night was atrocious, and the shots were too. He's a volume shooter and I don't know how that's gonna gel with Rip Hamilton, who is best coming off of motion/screens, while AI needs to handle the ball for 20 seconds of the shot clock before jacking one up...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
