I hate thinking about what Paul went through that night, but it helps you to respect him and appreciate him more.

"We’re all people before we’re players. This is what we do; this is not really who we are. Outside the bright lights and jerseys and screaming fans, we’re fathers, we’re brothers, we’re sons. We’re just regular people, but something like that does put things in perspective. For some reason, . . . somebody wants to do you bodily harm, whether you’re a celebrity or a regular Joe," Battie said.

So true Battie. So true.

Hey guys, this is another article that talks about the same topic but from a little perspective, specifically from Battie's perspective and his relationship with Pierce

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/b ... 7700.story

Attack on Paul Pierce gave Tony Battie perspective on his life, strengthened their bond

BOSTON — Sometimes, teammates are forever teammates.

No matter if a trade or a transaction separates them and sends them to different cities, some bonds are unbreakable.

There are a lot of reasons why Orlando Magic center/forward Tony Battie is so happy for Boston forward Paul Pierce, who led the Celtics to a title and was named MVP of the NBA Finals in June.

Eight years ago, in the wee hours of Sept. 25, Battie was driving at breakneck speed to a Boston hospital.

Pierce, his Celtics teammate, was lying in his car, drenched in blood.

Battie was imploring him to hang on.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

All the serious/thoughtful stuff aside, this is the lone reason I'll never buy a Made Men cd. Damn A-holes rep Boston and cut up the best ball player we got since Larry

great article and battie sounds so smart. shows his well-being as a person.

his actually a good fit for us, providing interior presence off the bench, too mad the magic are our rivals so there's no way we could get him.

Battie was awsome for us, in a way I miss that ECF team. On the Pierce story I remember that day like it was yesturday I thought his career was over and somehow he was starting for us just a month or so after, just shows how tough he is.

^I too remember when Paul was stabbed, my friend James told me "Paul Pierce got stabbed last night" and I thought he meant with like a steak knife or something...I didn't realize it was a life-threatening assault until I read the paper later in the day. I only wanted him to stay alive, nevermind play that season. And look at him now! A miracle...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Len Bias, Reggie Lewis, Paul Pierce.. It's amazing how close we were to another tragedy.

who knows that group outside of boston? seriously.......probably cuz they suck hard.

you have to a real prick to stab someone when they aren't looking. cowards. its good that two of them are in jail for this crime. i read somewhere that one of them is convicted for murder along with the attack on paul.

there is a real "classy" portrayal of his attack on youtube still i think. since when was attempted murder funny?
