The Celtics Sales Pitch to Mutombo & Mourning

1. You're playing for your place in history - a championship, the Hall of Fame, a 70 win season.

2. You won't have to play more than 15 minutes per game.

3. Like PJ Brown, you get to finish games, especially the last few minutes of games.

4. We will give you the full veteran minimum, of approximately $1.2 million, without prorating it for the remaining games (the Celtics actually have about $2.1 million left over of the MLE, but that would have to be prorated over the remaining games, so it would work out the same). The Celtics save money because the the League pays about $450k of the veteran minimum, leaving $711k for the Celtics, which would be doubled with the luxury tax.

5. Mutombo, if he were to come on board, would likely wait until after the final Houston game during the first week of January. But it's his best shot at his first championship.
And he does have the same agent as Sam Cassell.

6. Zo could be a tougher sell.

Perhaps if the Celtics approached Zo the way Miami would.

Zo, who still has a locker in the Heat lockeroom,
is treated like a Tribal Leader by the Heat Tribe.
Maybe there is a way to treat him with similar respect.

Not really. The reason why PJ got to finish some games instead of Perk was because last year was Perk's 1st real playoff action and PJ had a jumper to space the floor. Now, Perk has the experience and Mourning/Mutombo don't have jumpers.

Mourning is too tied into Miami IMO and he won't leave anywhere else if he decides to come back. He'll want to retire as a Miami Heat player and the Heat need a center pretty bad too.

Mutombo is similar. If he decides to play this year, he's going to Houston. Houston has a chance to go far if they get healthy and they need Mutombo badly as well as Yao is the only player on their team with length.

The guy who I think that we have a chance of getting is Joe Smith, either if he gets bought out or through a trade of Scal/cash/one of the young players.

I can tell you that both Mourning and Mutombo definitely have jumpers. Maybe not PJ Brown like but certainly better then Perk.
