Lets Get Mobley!

Post#1 » by s1ickd » Wed Dec 3, 2008 3:36 am

Mobley is clearly not in the future plans of the Knicks. I think if we trade a combination of cheap contracts (Eddie House + Giddens) for Cuttino it would be well worth it. It's already clear to us that Walker is a superior prospect to Giddens.

Mobley gives us a veteran off the bench with a deadly clutch shot. He's also a pretty good character guy and keeps his cool. I think Mobley backing up Ray Allen and bringing the ball up the court a bit when Rondo is off the floor would work very nicely. TA could continue backing up PP.

This would also free up time for Gabe Pruitt, who I think is a generally superior player to Eddie House anyways.

A bench of Powe, Big Baby, Mobley, TA, and Pruitt is extremely solid.

There are 8 players that the Celtics will absolutely not entertain any trade discussions of.

You can be sure that the starters, plus Tony Allen, Leon Powe, and Eddie House
are not available.

After those 8, Davis would only be moved in a deal where a center was returned,
and Pruitt would only be moved if a 5th guard for the active roster (like Marbury)
were coming aboard.

So, that leaves Giddens, Walker, O'Bryant and Scal;
and Scal would only be moved if another full sized SF were coming on board.

So, to match up with SG Mobley's $9 million salary,
you have a choice of Giddens or Walker. Only $8 million short.

That's why it's a preposterous trade.

He might be nice to have, but we have absolutely no need for him. We can't match contracts unless we included someone like House and/or TA and/or Perk along with Scal. All that would do is give us another hole while being redundant with what we have. Even if he were bought out for some reason, I can't imagine why we would pursue him. The only roster moves we make, as stated, are either for a real C or a big SF.

He's way overpaid and has a possible career ending heart condition(which is why he's not playing for the Knicks.)

I know, right? Maybe we should wait on this one until his test results come back

I personally don't see House as being that valuable. He's basically a spot up shooter with lots of energy. Mobley is clearly a better player in every fascet of the game, even ball handling.

That being said, I didn't know of his heart condition.

Danny Ainge once said that every coach should have two shooters who he can
call in from the bench to make shots.

The family tree for that quote goes back a long way,
maybe even before Red Auerbach.

But, Eddie House is the Celtics best bench shooter.
Career wise, no one is close, plus Eddie had a phenomenal pre-season.

There really is no other bench shooter,
although some might say Cassell, if he still has his legs,
and some might even say Scalabrine,
who I'd say falls short of reliable.

So, besides Mobley's heart condition torpedoing your trade proposal,
Eddie House is one of the 5 guys on the floor for that last second three point attempt.

And Eddie won't be in any trade discussions by the Celtics front office.

I'd rather not go after Mobley, he's a bad flu away from being out of the league.
Though I'm not of the belief that Powe, Tony etc are untouchable. I don't think for a second Danny would have a problem moving them in a deal if he thought it was a good one.

First off, TA is playing better than Mobley. Ray and Tony are our SG's. Second, I don't want to get rid of House. We need his shooting. And last, in two years when Mobley is out of the Leadue, Giddens will be a very good player. I wouldn't trade Giddens for Mobley right up.

yeah to clarify, i never mentioned tony allen's name in any trades.

i just simply said mobley is an upgrade over house and can be attained for cheap.

however, now that i know of his heart condition, i back off my original comments.

eddie house is a product of our fantastic system and surrounding cast. he is not even close to being untouchable. he's a pretty reliable high energy shooter, but thats where his merits end.
