Useful Stat?

i was thinking today as i watched the celtics...

Is there a stat that accounts for passes that lead to a field goal as well as a trip to the freethrow line?

I think it would useful because it would show who can effectively run an offense a little more than just assists. An example would be Rondo and Perkins, Rondo can play the defense like a fiddle, penetrate and dish to Perkins, who has position in the paint, and instead of an easy bucket, the opposing player fouls to prevent the easy bucket or Perkins pounds the ball on the floor and ends up getting fouled going up. Currently there isn't a stat that acknowledges that the pass Rondo made was productive. The pass was productive because although it didn't lead to a field goal, it gave the opposing player a foul, and it indirectly led to points (free throws) and imo it shows what players are really out there setting the table and running an offense. I was thinking of something like "productive passes". I think it may be useful because based purley on observation it seems to happen often enough to be significant

let me know what you think, i was kind of lost in my own thoughts with this one, and would appreciate input of any kind

Some teams keep that statistic internally I believe. Jim Obrien mentioned it one time. I would say this - guys that make alot of assists like Rondo also make alot of "near assists." So while it might be nice I doubt it would be that illuminating. Though I think the OB stat counted passes that lead to uncontested shots as well..not just trips to the line.
