Bill:

Excellent summary.

My read is the situation is that we very much are trying to get in a position to acquire another athletic star. I couldn't help but thinking Deng would be great to fill in the waning years of GPA. I actually thought he was auditioning for the Celts Friday.

In the back of my mind I see the same strategy Red used to get Len Bias, but only now DA has computers with a huge database and a world class staff. It seems to me that not only our we going after championships now, but we are also rebuilding our stable of trading chips.

One thing that bothers me about some fans is the ease with which they trash our young guys. It does our team no good. If Giddens is on the block, and I doubt it, then trashing him only decreases his value, maybe not much. But a player like West that has psychological issues, may lose hope if the fans don't like him. A lot of these players are emotional children that have been coddled there entire life.

Anyways, I think DA and the Celtic brain trust have easrned our respect, confidence and support at this point.
