Re: Free POB!
Not gonna help us in June, not worth having him on the court now. This isn't the NBDL, this is the best team in the NBA with a limited window to win another championship. Let's get serious about what the priorities are.

Re: Free POB!
From what I can tell, inside scoring is the Celtics weakness thus far. We have become, dare I say it, a jump shooting team. Our best post player is our starting SF. This doesn't seem to be too much of an issue with our starting lineup thanks to solid rebounding from our 4 and 5 along with an incredible rebounding point guard and a capable rebounding SF.
When Rondo, KG and Perk our out of the lineup, a cold shooting night is fatal for the C's. Powe and Big Baby are nice pieces, but when both are in the lineup we simply don't have enough size against some of these teams. Powe is really our only inside player on the second unit as Big Baby's offense stems from jumpers and only jumpers.
POB is not a good defensive player, and his on court intensity matches that of Mark Blount. But... he is a great offensive post player. I want to see how House/TA/(Pierce or Ray)/Powe/O'Bryant compares to House/TA/(Pierce or Ray)/Powe/Baby.
I think having the threat of a backup center that can score in the post will benefit the second unit greatly. O'Bryant is also a solid shot blocker, something Big Baby has struggled with.

Patrick O'Bryant is now a great offensive post player? Now I've heard it all. Were you also the mastermind behind the Gabe Prutt = Gilbert Arenas threads?

Perhaps great is a bit of an overstatement. Surely you couldn't argue against decent. Certainly as good, if not better, then Perk and Powe.
And no, Gabe Pruitt=Gilber Arenas was not my handywork, although I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more Gabe too.

Re: Free POB!
If O'Blount had the ability to score or create for others on the block, he wouldn't have been cut by the Warriors and wouldn't be glued to the bench in Boston. I would argue that he isn't even a decent low post scorer. In fact, I'd argue that he brings nothing to the table at the NBA level, starting first and foremost with his heart, other than his height and athleticism.
If you're envisioning a scenario where the Celts are dumping the ball down low to O'Bryant for critical baskets, I hate to be the one to tell you that the only place where that could conceivably happen is in NBA 2K9. He can not play. Furthermore, he isn't even supposed to be a scorer, this was not why he was drafted. This guy is supposed to be a rebounding/shot blocking specialist, only he shies away from contact like his name was Raef LaFrentz. O'Bryant, after 2 years of college, 2 and a half years in the NBA, 2 summer leagues, and a trip to the NBDL (only lottery pick ever to go to the NBDL) is still years away from being able to play in the league. I think it's say to brand him with the bust tag and move on with our lives. Why he was offered anything more than the minimum or more than a one year deal I'll never understand.
