Well that's embarissing. I forgot that Giddens was a first round pick.

Thought we used the old MLE to sign him after he was picked.

I've been saying it for a while now ... we could use Marbury offense off the bench. It's that simple, if House isn't feeling it, that's a big blow to our offense and Tony Allen is just too inconsistent.

Look at LA vs BOS ... they let Kobe roam because Rondo doesn't shoot too well, so we have to bring in House - but if he isn't feeling it, then what??

Marbury can drive and dish and shoot decent enough so we can nullify the Lakers' tactic which is clearly a problem.

** despite the fact that the pick and roll game with Pierce clearly works [see last June vs LA], Doc Rivers continues to NOT utilise him as a #1 option and he continues to only jack up 13-15 FGA. Joke!

Marbury's First Choice Isn't Boston

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/56352/20090103/marburys_first_choice_isnt_boston/
Stephon Marbury says he would be "honored" to play for the Celtics, admitted they are on his short list, but denied an ESPN.com report he has made a decision to join Boston if he gets released by the Knicks.

Marbury said Boston has not made an offer. A source close to the situation said the Celtics wouldn't be Marbury's first 1 choice either because of the limited role, backing up point guard Rajon Rondo.

Marbury will end up on Boston - the whole "no PT" stuff is just blow coming from media speculation....Rondo/Ray would be ideally refreshed by not having to play more than 33 minutes per game on average, if that.

Adding Marbury allows the team to play 2 of the best 3 the most minutes while limiting the minutes of the guards as a whole. TA and House now become true complementary players as Doc can afford to mix and match any of the 5 based off situation and performance.

The real question is molding Marbury into an offensive performer who plays the odds. If he takes a bunch of highly contensted shots he'll be gone - but he is capable of playing sharp basketball and the role of 6th man is perfectly suited for him and his ego.

Setting a challenge in front of a player like Marbury is fairly easy as long as you know the stipulations. Marbury wants PT because he wants a chance to show that he is capable of bringing glory and respect to himself. Being able to earn up to 30 minutes of PT based off his ability to make his game work for the team is something his skill set is suited for in Boston's rotation.

Marbury could dominate the ball and make decisions for at least 10-15 minutes of his available PT. The rest of his PT depends on the situational effectiveness of the others, but only Rondo would supercede him for playmaking responsibility in P&R and only Ray and Pierce in terms of perimeter shooting.

This is Marbury's perfect on-court balance situation - if he is going to succeed anywhere, it would be here and now...that doesn't make it a slam dunk, but it is ideal based off the information we have on both Marbury and the current team rotation.

The potential to improve the performance of Powe/TA/House is substantial as there would always be a playmaking double-team commanding presence on the perimeter - 48 minutes of dribble penetration is worth its weight in gold.

well KG certainly isnt against it

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3810443

"I'm not opposed to Steph. I feel Steph still has a lot of basketball in him, I know his IQ is very, very high. He is one of the best point guards out there to play with. I wouldn't be opposed to that," Garnett said Sunday in his first public comments on the possibility of Marbury joining the Celtics.

Asked if he'd take his non-opposition a step further and outright endorse the possible acquisition of Marbury, Garnett put the brakes on.

"I know where this is going, ya'll. Y'all relax, OK?" Garnett told a small crowd of reporters who waited over an hour for him to speak following the Celtics' shocking 100-88 loss to the Knicks. "If Steph came to this team and made it better, I'm all for that. If anybody came to his team and made it better, I would be for that."

So, the bottom line here is that KG sees no reason not to welcome Marbury aboard, and the Celtics might now feel a little more strongly that they need a better offensive option on nights like this one when Rajon Rondo (who was benched by coach Doc Rivers for the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter) is not up to the task of knocking down the open looks teams are going to keep giving him.

This team needs a sixth man. Ray and Paul are getting all out of whack trying to lead that second unit. Marbury's gotta look at some Nick the Quick footage from those Dallas days.
