I think theyve had enough time playing down in the D League and they feel its better for them to be around the team now. Id rather them be sitting on the bench and in practice (actually involved with the celtics) then down in the D League with really nothing to do with the celts.

By the sounds of it, TA won't play till Monday, and with the Cleveland game on Friday, a little more depth at SG/SF is nice to have...Gabe played well, but he's better at point and there's no way he's guarding Lebron.

Friday oughta be fun if you're right and TA will be out agin. Kids will go from frying pan to fire trying to guard Lebron

Rondo/PRUITT
Ray/GIDDENS
Pierce/ WALKER
KG/Powe
Perk/Baby

I hope not, cuz that second unit would get trashed.

Well, it is better than House, TA, Scal, Powe, Davis...

Yes, Ainge removed them before their 2nd game of the DLeague SHOWCASE in order to showcase them. That is 100% what's going on here.

Excuse the sarcasm, but come on, think. I'd like to see a 2nd unit with Pruitt and either Giddens or Walker getting 10-12 minutes but I doubt Doc does this. I'd like to see Giddens in there for energy on the 2nd unit, but Walker might better. I still like some kind of move shipping out TA/whoever for Joe Smith and moving Pruitt into the main backup PG spot and throwing one of the rooks into the fire. We've already seen what Billy Walker thinks about LeBron anyway, he seems to be good at getting under the other team's skin (queue up the preseason videos)

I don't think Giddens or Walker address the real problems of the 2nd unit: lack of a playmaker and lack of veteran size and so I severely doubt either with be put into a contributing role (barring injuries, of course). However, in the short team, Walker does add one thing we currently lack: toughness. Teams are beating us up, hitting us first and last, and we're not fighting back because the refs have such a close eye on everything we do, and because Doc has got it in their heads to be careful with retaliation. We've been getting straight up punked by teams since Christmas. It needs to end soon and Bill might be the one to turn the worm. He's tough and he could give us a nice jolt of energy from that toughness

...both of these kids have energy and enthusiam, but its far more likely that they are simply being brought back for one of the team's in-season evaluations....the team can send them down 3 times and if they have some PT coming up, its a great time to see what they've learned and whether or not they've improved enough to potentially contribute.

Its also possible that a trade is imminent, but that wouldn't be super surprising considering the team has been actively looking for help at a couple of key areas - PG and F/C...it would be logical that the team would use pieces in a trade in areas they are already deep in - wing - or at a position they are going to fill in via trade - C...

Depending on what Ainge relinquishes in trade, either Giddens or Walker could see an oportunity open up, but its still a long shot at this point considering the nature of the current lineup....both these players could definately add some energy to the group. but they are capable of bringing that in practice and sitting on the bench - nobody knows how tight their grasp of the offense/defense is, but it can't be too sharp right now after months away from the team.

Young jedi Sky Walker. Use the force. You're our only hope.

I thought the coments during the Rockets game were a bit curious when they were talking how Mutombo had made contact with one of the owners and they said to Mutombo they weren't ready to sign him yet. Does that mean they are working on another deal and Mutombo was second option?

Mutombo said he felt like he was 4th option ...

If Joe Smith gets bought out (or traded for) Mutombo thought was first option ...

If Miami's seasonally suddenly ended (Wade injury) could make Mourning available ...

Otherwise, Doc Rivers could talk PJ out of retirement,
but in the meantime,
since PJ has officially announced his retirement,
PJ doesn't have to take phone calls from
reporters and representatives of the other 29 teams.

So, yeah, Mutombo thought that he was 4th in line,
and he decided to start collecting some paychecks.

It sounded like Mutombo (and his agent David Falk)
interpreted the situation to be
that if the Celtics can't get Joe Smith or Mourning,
that the Celtics would rather 39 year old PJ Brown come out of retirement than
soon to be 43 (May) Mutombo
(assuming Mutombo didn't lie about his age when he entered Georgetown,
he's long been suspected to be older,
look at him).
