Reality Check - Calm Down

Post#1 » by Jammer » Thu Jan 8, 2009 6:24 am

Before Celtic fans continue to point fingers,

and try to mis-direct blame,

I think the fine work the team has achieved this season is really being lost

by a few games where the refereeing has sucked,

shots haven't fallen,

or other teams were simply hot.

So, to review, and pass out some awards to players who
will strike fear in any opposing coach come playoff time,
I merely point out where the Celtics rank at each position,
league wide, thru their first 35 games (thru Monday) based on NET PER,
which factors in defense..

PG 3rd (that's right; Rajon, Eddie and Gabe as a group rank 3rd overall in the NBA)

SG 3rd (Ray & Tony)

SF 2nd (all my ragging on Pierce for dribbling balls off his foot, and his excessive turnovers,
........ Ray, Paul and Tony have the Celtics ranked 2nd in the league at this position)

PF 5th (considering Garnett is 9th in the NBA individually, the rest of the players are weak).

C 14th That's right, friggin 14th. Basically Perk & Davis.

So, my friends, before you trade the whole team, leave
Rondo, Eddie, Ray, Tony, Paul, KG, Leon and Kendrick alone.

Get that backup center to get Davis out of the game,
and find a guard to make shots for days Ray or Eddie aren't hitting.

And forget about Posey, because the problems are elsewhere.

Quoting this for emphasis for what I've been saying during this whole slump. We should at least be encouraged that the losses have been close and not blowouts to mediocre teams like Indiana. Each game we were in it late and an extra made shot here and there could have won it for us in each game.

former owners of the longest winning streak this season. and after tonight's gm vs roxx, owner of the longest losing streak in the eastern conf.

but am i panicked yet? not a chance. we'll get it together. we will. just a matter of time. april/may/june is when it counts (the 1st 82 do too) and our boys will do it.

did we really push too hard thru that 19-gm streak u guys think ????

The Celtics beat Cleveland on Friday night everyone will be talking about 3-peating. It's just the normal highs and lows of an NBA season.

Well when you fully realize pro sports are as fake as wrestling, you won't care anymore. I've been laughing when the celtics have been losing because I know it's fake, but not many others realize it. Main reasons for sports: causes division amongst people (why should I hate a Laker fan? are they not human like me?), robs you of your time and money (distraction from what's important in life), and here's the biggy-it MANIPULATES your emotions. Some of you have been manipulated so bad that this post will make your head and stomach hurt, you're probably upset and all I'm trying to do is free you from the bondage (the more upset you get, the more you've been manipulated and have fallen for the fakery). So I'll go check fans reactions from time to time and some are FLIPPING out LOL, almost like their favorite wrestler Bret Hart just lost 3 straight times to Shawn Michaels.

I mean do you like when your stomach turns when the opposition nails a 3 near the end of a game? That hasn't happened to me for quite some time-it use to..when I thought it was real.

So you're posting about a "fake" sport on a message board created for "fake" sports? If you don't care about it and it doesn't effect you emotionally why bother? Is it for the "fake" entertainment value? Do you watch movies and not laugh/get mad etc. What's the point of watching something and not getting some sort of emotion/enjoyment out of it?

You must have a lot of free time to devote to this "fake" sport.

I do agree with lucerne, however, that it does no good to get so emotionally invested in teams. I still root passionately but I realize the place sports has in life, now...the biggest turning point for me is after the Pats lost the SB to the Giants (which I still think was fishy, but that's a discussion for another day) I didn't sleep for like 2 nights I was so bummed. Then I realized one day "You know what? Those guys lost...and they'll still go home to their mansions and have millions in the bank and get over it while I'm busting my ass to make ends meet for my wife and kids"...life goes on...

That being said, I still get bummed when my teams (right now, the C's) lose!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Yeah, it's possible. I remember several questionable calls in the Finals series last year vs the Lakers. There were some crazy calls last year against that Lakers that really made you wonder. At least a boston fan confirms it.

I notice alot of Celtic fans have been saying the losses recently have been due to the refs, maybe they're trying to setup a Lebron/Kobe Finals this year.

If you want to enjoy the game you just can't worry about that ****, I do think the some of the refs are on the take, but it's also possible that they just really suck and are really inconsistent. But I don't care, I still love to watch the C's still get some highs and lows from the games. It's just entertainment though, some people really do take it too far emotionally. I just can't bring myself to think "it's fixed" every time something goes wrong, because when things are going right I sure as hell don't think it's fixed, but that's just being a fan. Could it all be a sham? Sure. Plenty of people that I know think it is, but human nature is such that sooner or later someone would blow the cover off of the whole thing, so I doubt it.

^I agree, it's no good to get so emotional about it all. And while there is definite bias and chickanery going on, I don't think it's *all* fixed! Some of it is, though (see: 2006 Finals, 2000 WCF, 2003 WCF, etc)...

Jammer, you're one of the most astute posters on RealGm. From the net PER numbers, it's clear that backup center should be where our free agent interests lie. Adding Marbury isn't going to increase our efficiency as much as a legitimate veteran 7 footer would...

The NBA regular season is not a fair fight game to game. Injuries and travel and home court all take their toll differently. The Celtics came back to the rest of the league when they went on the road. It is not surprising that losses come with travel and fatigue.

This year the C's have a target on their backs. Everyone wants to beat the champs. Everyone gets up for them. Not everyone gets up for those middle of the road teams.

The Celtics have a veteran team, but they all played more games last year than in any other year of their career. That extra wear and tear makes it harder to compete every night.

I would not worry about the Celtics. They will get it figured out. They are better than they were a year ago in some respects. They know what it takes to win a championship - even if they lose a lot of road games in the process. They won't dominate like the 1995-96 Bulls, but they will be serious competition for every team the face.

Lots of fans would love to have their team even with the Celtics.

Everybody calm down...It's a long season. We're fine. If we stay healthy, we will be there when it matters at the season and we will be tough to beat.

I feel a lot better after reading this thread though. I thought we needed another big to come off the bench, but I am now convinced that all we need is a FAKE 7 footer. Danny should be able to get one of those lifesize cardboard cutouts and just stick in the paint with it's arms up, then the other team can run into it.

Coming from a fan of the team who had a 3-peat gift wrapped for them by the league, this comment means almost nothing -- Sacramento Kings beat the Lakers IMO...Stern needed Kobe to be Jordan though, so no dice...
