You guys ever thought the votes are ALREADY fudged up? As in, these results we see now are already cooked by the NBA so that all of a sudden, KG doesnt make a spectacular comeback?

In 1990, fans who didn't like Malone voted in AC Green over him (also big market vs Utah). Caused a lot of pissing and moaning that would resemble what we'd see if Yi were to beat out KG.

I don't know though... it looks like chair might be snubbed from the game this year.

i'm sorry... but thats a bunch of BS!!!.... and you call someone else (Please Use More Appropriate Word)?

Real fans don't elect these All Stars anymore...It's kids with nothing else to do with their lives that frequent this sight everyday and vote for their personal favorite over and over and over again... there's really no thought involved as to who deserves the honor....

This Yi thing is nothing more than the Asian people stuffing the ballot box for one of their own....plain and simple...and there are far more Asian people in the world then there are any others...

IMO the players should elect the All Stars....

Then you would have the players who truely deserve the honor, recieve the honor ...and it wouldn't be the popularity contest Zoo that it has become since fans started voting....JMO

So what are you? You're not a fan?

Oh yeah, I forgot. You are the REAL fan, not those OTHER FAKE FANS, right? Please. Get over yourself.

Believe what you want to believe tombator.... today's way of picking All Stars is just a popularity contest.. thats all it is....

Let the players decide who gets the honors...

I'd bet that 95% of the fans wouldn't really care....

But then that glitsy website wouldn't get the hits needed to advertise and sell their stuff...

IMO...That's the real reason that whole deal exists ....

It's all about making money....That's today's NBA... they've gone overboard
with it all...and now they will never change it back... regardless how ridiculous the whole fan balloting gets....

And thats what I dislike about professional sports in general...just remember, you don't need to wear a player's jersey to be a fan...all you need to do is enjoy the game...

Thats what I try to do and for the most part I ignore the glitz and the hype and all the rest....

I enjoy the All Star games regardless....it's entertaining...but I still think the players should name the rosters...JMO

Tenbomber. Yes, you do have a point. But it's the same point people make every year. I understand all that, as most people do, but you have to try seeing it this way too.

What's the point of having an Allstar game? Is it to tally up who has the most Allstar appearances for HOF voting? No because Allstar appearances shouldn't be part of the HOF equation.

Is it a League's way of saying who they think are the best players? No because they have their All-NBA 1st, 2nd and 3rd team announcements at the end of the year.

IMO, the Allstar break is an excellent way of having a mini-break in otherwise a long season. And it's for the fans to see their favorite players in a cool exhibition game that is a nice celebration for the league. Do they want to make money off of it? Hell yeah! If you are a fan of the NBA, you want them to keep making money too because that's how they run the league, have their games on TV, etc.

Is the NBA All Star voting, a perfect system to pick the best players? No. But no one's ever argued that. Maybe as you said, if the players voted, you may have a better representation of the best players in the league, but that's not a perfect system either. Because not every player likes each other the same and not every player has the same set of criteria for determining the best player. Also, by middle of the season, not every team's played every team, which means, these players who haven't seen certain players can't make an accurate assessment as to who is better than who.

For example, if a playerA who wasn't good last season, but blows up this year and becomes great, how can a playerB who hasnt' seen this playerA play this year say the playerA is better than playerC?

And what if the playerC has a monster game in his only game against playerB's team? Isn't playerB going to think the playerC is better than playerD who played against playerC when he had an off night?

Bottom line is that even though the NBA allstar balloting isn't a perfect system, it gives the fans a voice and anyone who was snubbed has a chance to be on the team through coaches' voting. Between the 2, we usually get a pretty good representation of the best and the most popular players, which are usually the same.

I'll give you all those points tombator...

It's just an opinion that I (and many other fans) share...

Who better to know whose playing well than the players themselves?

And aside from those fans who watch a trillion games a week on their League Pass... I cant imagine any of them having a more qualified opinion than the players and the coaches themselves...

Thats the bottom line with me...

And the reason why I think the way I do about fan voting...Its just an opinion though....

You know?....

Thinking some more about all this....

Why not let the players pick the rosters...

and let the fans vote for their favorite players at each position on that website...

And then present a "Fan Favorite Award" to the winning players at halftime?... you could have two at each position...one from the East and one from the West...

Wouldn't that satisfy the fan just as much?

It would also add some substance to the program....

Just a thought..

I'd rather watch an all-star game played competitively from start to finish than worry about whether KG makes it in over Yi. Seriously, the whole thing is just a contact-free alley-oop exhibition with Shaq shotting 3-pointers.

For those who watched in the 80s, has the on-court "action" always been this bad?

I think I can answer that...

It's always been a fun game.... but I think the earlier games were played with a bit more contact than the present ones....it's just my opinion mind you...but before the 3 point shot was introduced, there used to be some real battles underneath just like any intermural pick up game between friends would be... but it was all for fun and bragging rights then too....and they would officiate the contest closer too...

I think its more glitter now.... less about rules.... more about flashy plays to dazzle the crowd... JMO
