Another reason why Miller in Boston could work is he's a former Sixth Man Of The Year winner. And he's a proven scorer in this league. The Celtics bench lacks a true sixth man that you can rely on. Miller can provide consistent offense off the bench like Gordan did with the Bulls or Ginobili does with the Spurs. I believe this is part of the reason why you've some Boston posters wanting to bring Ray off the bench and starting Tony. The bench lacks a go-to guy on offense. That player isn't Tony, House or Powe. Even though, Tony's the only slasher besides Pierce. He's inconsistent, turnover prone and unable to stay healthy. While Miller has shown that he can also be fearless driving the lane to the basket. And he has been a clutch shooter in the past that gives the opposing defenses another player like Ray to be concern about in the fourth quarter.
Miller's a proven talent in the league and McHale understands that he can tempt a contending team to offer better than what Ainge can offer this time around solely based on Miller's credentials as a shooter and scorer. Not to mention, he's under thirty and a soon-to-be expiring contract. If Ainge has a chance... It would be only if Minnesota sees Miller as purely a salary dump. But, most likely he isn't viewed as such by them. His proneness for injuries and not being a better than average defender are my only concerns about him. However, those are the exact same concerns I'd of Ray and he fit in with the Celtics just fine. He even improved defensively while here.
I think you've to have players that other teams want in order to attract the interest in a three-way trade. The only reserve player who might have had created a buzz initially was Powe. That value has since declined. The problem I see for Ainge is that the league, as I do, believes that Boston has little in way of trading chips or are simply playing players such as Davis, Scalabrine, Tony Allen (if healthy) and Pruitt to reestablish any value around the league. If that's the case, the league will feel even more indifferent. In other words, they won't see the aforementioned player's extended roles as genuine but more as an effort to showcase or the team is desperate for any player to step-up.
