The big man WE NEED

Post#1 » by ddb » Wed Jan 14, 2009 9:19 pm

Here's a guy that I want Danny to go after. Ronny Turiaf! Turiaf in a Celtics uniform makes all the sense in the world. He's big, he's strong, he's intense, he's experienced, and he blocks shots as well as anyone (see his blocks per minute ratio).

A trade of Scal, Giddens, Pruitt for Turiaf works in tradetracker. I don't think we're overpaying in a deal like this...

Why it works for Boston: Our bench clearly lacks the depth and size needed to win a championship. Adding Turiaf gives us a second unit of Turiaf, Powe, Allen, House, (player X). We also still have Big Baby which gives a terrific big man bench rotation of Turiaf, Powe, Baby to back up Perk and KG...
As much as a like Gabe Pruitt there just doesn't seem to be a spot for him on this team. I think he has a lot of potential but for the time being we really needed to bring in an established Big man..Turiaf fits the mold. To me he's a fish out of water playing in Don Nelsons system. He would be a much better backup to Perk and KG...
I also don't LOVE giving up on a prospect (Giddens) before we even know what he brings to the table. But you have to give up something to get something back...Scal is in the deal for salary purposes.

Why Golden State does this: Turiaf was a strange signing to begin with. I didn't think it made alot of sense when he signed with GS. Gabe Pruitt could potentially START until Monta Ellis is 100%. Wouldn't you agree that Pruitt is better than CJ Watson?? Golden state is a run and gun team loaded with guards and SF's. Pruitt and Giddens fit their mold and will allow Chris Mullin to deal a guy like Maggette...

Anyway....I haven't posted in awhile so I decided to share my opinions on a deal I'd like to see happen. Knowing the game and knowing the C's weaknesses I think that Turiaf is the ideal fit for our bench. We're going to need depth for the stretch run and I've ALWAYS loved Ronny Turiaf in that energy/big man/ bench role.

A trade of Scal, Giddens & Big Baby for Turiaf would be even better.

I'm for not trading anyone and adding a couple of late season pickups after people are bought out. Then I would cut Cassell (make him a coach) and trade Big Baby for a 2nd round pick (because the Celtics probably are not going to resign him anyways). IMO.

Yeah he'd be a great fit with C's but I think GS would want Powe in the deal.

Even so, I'd still do it.

Not a bad idea. I would still put him after PJ, Zo, and Joe...But not a bad trade idea, and actually a pretty reasonable/fair one.

I'd do it if we could replace Pru or Gabe with Davis.

I do like the kid, and he is turning into a celtics killa, but I'd rather have more size than hussel. He's definitely outplaying baby, but again, I would rather add size to the line up.

I like Ronny, but how have you forgotten how he shrunk in the finals?

Turiaf would be a good fit here. KG, Perk, Pierce, Ray, guys like that would help him reach new levels..

Can't use the "didn't do much in the finals" excuse because who didn't have a rough series on LA? WE kicked the hell out of them.

Not gonna happen. Turiaf's contract is for 3 or 4 more seasond if I remember correctly and Ainge isn't making any commitments past 2 years. Plus Turiaf is more of a pure 4 than a 5. We need a guy who can play both effectively.
