I'd like to see what Giddens can do but I have to believe that if we make a deal or a couple of deals that he is gone. they will keep walker over him. Gabe to me has played his way into the rotation and the combination of gabe and walker make tony allen and giddens expendable. Danny loves shooters and tony allen will never be a shooter plus he is an average defender and makes stupid plays. No one wants POB but obviously he could be thrown into a deal as could cassell who would probably be waived and would return to the team as a coach. The big question is do you trade Leon or Baby. If you can find a quality big man like Joe SMith you may have to sacrifice one of those guys. I like them both but they are both undersized. Of the two I think they keep leon. Scal may have played himself out of being traded and actually I like scal in the starting role against certain teams. With him on the floor we've been getting off to good starts whereas with Kendrick we often fall behind in the first period. Before we do any deal though I would like to see POB,GIddens and Walker get some minutes so we can see what they can do

God, when everyone has a good game like they did last night versus the Nets, I really want to keep our team the way it is, but again it's business and we have to get more physical and tougher so we can match up to Cleveland and Lakers.
I don't know but as of right now I would keep Scal. The way he has been playing these few games shows how important he might be to a team like us. Very good on defense, can shoot the ball from a 3 point line, his BBIQ is low but I don't think we can get anyone good for him.
I don't know how Danny will manage to pull a trade or something. We have the big 3 who are aging, then we have Perk and Rondo who will be with the Celtics for a long time and then we have these guys
- TA
- POB
- Big Baby
- Pruitt
-Giddens
- Walker
-Scal
- Cassell
I would part ways with everyone but would like to keep Pruitt and Powe if possible. At least keep 2 young players. If we trade away all of our young guys then what future do we have..??
Everyones talking about Marbury. Unless he settles for less $ which he won't NYK won't buy him out and will seek alternative options to get rid of him. That's why I don't think we can get him. Besides him, who can we really get that could be the spark off the bench ?? And what about the big guy > Pj Brown ?? Alonzo Mourning ?? Joe Smith ?? - for some reason I think all 3 will not be a Celtic. This gives us limited options.
Can we somehow get Rasheed Wallace...if we give them anyone but keep Pruitt and Powe..

OT - I really enjoyed hearing Grousbeck speak last night - sounds like a classy guy all the way.
Unfortunately, I doubt any other team likes our prospects better than we do, which makes a trade very difficult to do with them as a key component. Giddens is a guy Danny picked higher than he was generally ranked, and he hasn't played an NBA minute. Walker slid because of injury concerns, and not to jinx the guy but he's not very many games removed from that concern so GM's are going to be wary. POB is pretty much the same guy anyone could have picked up for vet minimum over the summer. Pruitt is gaining some value, however I'm not sure he is worth more than where he was drafted yet (35'ish).
Scal, I think he should be retained this year, he's demonstrating some flexibility in moving around the lineup playing the 3, 4, 5 spot on an emergency basis.
I think what will happen is we'll sign one FA, and do a position upgrade. My thinking is TA plus Davis or Powe for an upgraded guard or big, and grab the other off FA. But we don't touch PG, with Rondo, House, Pruitt, Cassell still being around. (As I understand it, House can void a trade, which is why I don't show him moving)
This might sound bizarre, but I'm starting to think that Marbury could be traded to Toronto or Houston, with O'Neill or McGrady coming back. Marbury expires this year which is the value to Toronto and Houston, and while O'Neill and McGrady have some value, they're immensely injury prone with contracts expiring in time for the 2010 FA season. Toss in some draft picks, and this could happen IMO.

Jammer wrote:OKC's request for a first round pick for Joe Smith won't fly because to make a trade work,
they'd have to take back $3.5 to $5.8 Million in salary, and they don't really want a long term commitment or a bad contract impacting the cap space the next two seasons.
So, I think there is a decent chance Smith gets bought out,
if he accepts $1 million less than his $4.7 million for the season.
Otherwise, PJ is probably more likely than Mourning, since Miami seems to be
playing well, although the tough part of their schedule
(road games and good teams) hasn't hit them yet.
Marbury is a ? because he doesn't have an agent doing his negotiating.
But Danny has trade chips. It's just a question of which ones he uses.
There are also whispers that Phoenix may blow up their team early,
before the playoffs.
If they do, Grant Hill would probably be available,
and he can play PG, SG, SF and PF in the second unit.
Phoenix is one game out in the loss column from 2nd in the West. I can't imagine them dealing a starter like Grant Hill... Shaq's having a good season and Richardson's starting to work well with them.. I'd love to see Phoenix getting a 4 spot in the West and Shaq giving the Lakers fits in the 2nd round...
Orlando can deal Bogans, Foyle and a #1 for Joe Smith. The guy from OKC that Boston could get is Nick Collision who is signed til 2010-11. I'm not an expert with the budget, but I can't see why they're saving money in 2010-11, when Pierce and KG are still making huge money and they'll need to re-up Rondo?? Seems 2011-12 is the year they can sign a big free agent, when Pierce's contract is up.

What I forsee is Marbury becoming available after the trade deadline. Seems NYK is still hoping they can get a team to deal for him prior to the deadline..
I think the trade will be for a big man and Ainge will offer one of the young guys like Giddens and the opportunity to save money.... There's guys like Jeff Foster and Nick Collison whose deals expire in 2010-11. Tim Thomas expires in 2009-10.

Boston plays at New York on the sixth of February. The trade deadline is on the ninetieth. Maxwell spoke on WEEI yesterday about believing that New York could likely wait until after the Boston game and then work out an agreement with Marbury on a contract buyout. He sees Marbury eventually in Boston. Who knows... I still think Marbury will essentially have sat out this season. He doesn't seem to be in a hurry to be on another team. I mean he has stated that he wants all of his remaining salary this season. Hence, the hold up...
The two Celtic players I would trade are House and Tony. House can opt out after this season and might do so regardless of how Boston finishes this season. And I would rather give McCants a try to be that consistent scorer from the bench than Tony. McCants certainly will be motivated to finish the season strong and a new team could motivate him even further.
I'm of the opinion that I'll like to see what the team has in both Giddens and Walker. Give them each next season a chance to crack the regular rotation. I'm certain that they will be motivated to prove something to themselves during the summer. Young players tend to have that attitude when they haven't played as a rookie or so you hope these two players feel that way. Why trade either now?
I don't know what to make of Powe and Davis. Part of me would keep Powe over Davis and another part of me says move on from them both. I still think Powe is a nice player to have on your team. He's a blue collar worker.
The veteran big man I'll like to see Ainge acquire is the same power forward most want to see playing here: Joe Smith. Another player can be Juwan Howard. But, who knows how much he has left as a player. He's older than Smith. Still, I remember reading that he was really disappointed that he didn't get an opportunity to play with Garnett in Minnesota. Perhaps, he'll contribute in a limited role in Boston.

it's good to hear things are in the works.
i'd prefer to keep Pruitt (PGs are rare), Powe (best player off the bench), and Giddens (low value). The rest of the bench is fair game for a trade, though I suspect Scal won't go because he's one of Doc's faves.
