The problem with your post is that you list all the reasons why Perkins should be a bench player, but then at the end you tack on a disclaimer that basically says Perkins shouldn't actually be a bench player, if he's in "game shape." Your original reasoning of why he should be a bench player isn't dependent on his game shape though.

all personal attacks aside...
Here's hoping the way Scal has played will diminish Tony Allens minutes. I'll take an 0-5 from the 3 night from scal over 6 points and 5 turnovers from T.A. any day. Scal plays solid d against big men (what we need) and consistently makes heads up veteran plays which makes up for his lacking athletic gifts.

I think Perk should still be starting center, but Scal should somehow be inserted into the rotation where he gets time on the floor with most of our starters. It's pretty clear Scal thrives with our starters and not with the bench. That is the best way Doc can play Scal, IMO.

I actually agree with R2G to some extent Scalabrine does a good job of spacing the floor, which allows room for the starting lineup to operate. When Scalabrine is playing to his limits he can be an effective role player and his high basketball IQ is a plus on the court. Where his intangibles help the most is in ball movement which ties into the first point; he allows the starting unit to get better looks.
On the defensive side he is slow and nonathletic but he is able to play enough solid defense. However, you don't want him out there for long because there is only so long before you can wait before teams take advantage of match ups. KG guarding centers is not suitable for him you don't want to put that much ware and tear on his aging body. On the other hand a KG/Scalabrine front court would only be seen the first 6 mins of the game similar to the example of how Tony Allen would start the first 6 mins his rookie year.
Another positive would be less mins for Glen Davis and Perkins would allow us to have more length, rebounding and defense on our 2nd unit. Perkins would be able to take advantage of back up center and would be able to give us a low post presence on the 2nd unit.
With all that being said Perk should start when he is healthy if Scalabrine was a bit more consistent it would be more of a question mark but I do see where R2G is coming from.

This is an excellent post and I wholeheartedly agree with the poster. Scalabrine should remain the starter.
Thanks.

I do wish Perk would show if he has more of a face up game. It does spread the floor more, the ball flows more....the ball seems to stop when it gets to Perk. That being said the shoulder does bother me and maybe Perk should have his minutes cut back until he is truly ready. Perk needs to take that 12 to 15 ft jumper make it or not to spread the floor and pass better....Scal did keep the flow going. RTG IMO has a point. I'm not saying Perk should lose his starting spot but I did like the Scal experiment with the 1st unit.

Re: Should Scalabrine remain in the lineup when Perk comes back?
I don't think this is crazy at all and have posted to this effect. Perk on the second unit would anchor the defense plus give them scoring. Also he could help them fast break. It would also keep perk out of foul trouble. the sixers started marc ivarroni when they won their championship. They had other players on their team that were far superiior to ivaronni but like scal he knew how to play and didn't make too many mistakes. Playing with the starters has definitely elevated scal's game. He's making shots, defensive stops and fewer to's. If you can start scal against shaq and amare and go up 35 then that's an effective lineup. As JVG said the NBA is a 1st quarter league. Scal gives us better spacing and has allowed our offense to get untracked earlier than if perkins was in the game. This is similar to how we played when posey played since he also helped space the floor with his 3 point shooting.
