could indeed, though if there was a buy out that was even more contested towards the deadline (say joe smith for example) it would be handy to be able to offer more than other teams

i think Marbury expects to take the minimum wherever he goes, hence trying to get as much money as possible out of NYK

still hope hes on board soon

If he really wants out Steph should take the $2 million offer and call the Knicks bluff. If that's what they've told him, then if he goes for it and they still don't buy him out he can do a more effective media job of what he's already trying to do. Right now he's trying to put the blame on them saying he's just waiting to hear from them, he can't take on a whole corporation, etc. If he takes the $2 million cut and they still don't buy him out he can say he's done what they asked him to do and they still aren't doing anything. My guess is that wouldn't last long because while Steph is not exactly a saint that would be bashing your organization, you still don't want to get that kind of reputation with other players to hurt you in dealings in the future. Yes it's New York City, and yes, they have a lot of money to offer in the future but they're a bad team right now and became a bad team still being New York City having a lot of money to offer so why risk it?

Obviously, New York would be thrilled to see Marbury go play for Greece knowing that in doing so it blocks Boston from getting him. If you're Marbury and there's truth to the substantial amount of money Greece will offer him. Why wouldn't you opt for Greece if a buyout is reached? Because Marbury would accomplish two objectives: You're freed from the Knicks and you more than recoup all of the $2M or $3M surrendered in a buyout. No doubt a win-win situation for Marbury. It's just as well. I never was a fan of him but like others felt he might have been one of a very few feasible options to help strengthen the bench of Boston. So, I would've been okay with the opportunity of signing him if it was there. Now I don't think it is. Not to mention, that New York can still lessen the appeal of signing Marbury after a buyout to a contending team if a buyout isn't reached by the first of March. Why would one of these teams in a position to make the playoffs want Marbury if they know he can't be a part of their roster for the playoff? Hence, Greece presents a new opportunity for Marbury.

I think Marbury would want to stick it to the Knicks enough that he'd rather be here than in Greece...question is, do WE want HIM?
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
