If you don't understand what I mean, Shaq has great personal chemsitry for the suns. I mean his teammates carried him onto the floor for the starting lineups the other night against the Spurs? WTF? lol. But at the same time there is a reason the Suns are not the team they used to be.

Why 5% on Sheed? I just don't see you breaking down anything here, just assigning a probability - what is the rationale behind it, I need more to got with...

As far as Shaq goes - Phoenix played a full-court 24 hour a day transition style, Shaq is a halfcourt player - he couldn't fit in better on the offensive end for Boston as he is a low post threat to KG and Rasheed's high post/perimeter game...totally different scenario...

And while I agree that star players are harder to implement, we're talking about 2 guys that would be in their late, late 30's, who also have games that fit into the Celtics half-court style - Kidd is like a mirror image of Rondo - albeit an ancient one at this point...i'd say "hells yea" to both as backups to bolster the rotation and give the team 15+ quality minutes per night...

In today's modern sports scene it would more or less be a dream scenario to have Pierce, Ray, and KG all restructure their deals to help continue Celtic success. It'd be great if Rondo took a smaller deal than he could get on the market, etc. And it'd be great to get Rasheed next season on an MLE deal as a backup big. But, it certainly seems to be a dream scenario if all those things were to happen, never mind Shaq and Kidd. That doesn't mean I don't think it will happen but it's a very rare scenario in modern sports that we're talking bout here. If the Celtics could pull that off I'd be very, very impressed.

Just to clear up a couple of things about the cap.

The likely scenario is that Pierce signs an extension and lowers his cap number this off season similiar to Garnett's contract.

At that point Allen would have to renounced and the team would have to either sign Rondo to a deal at less than his cap hold or hope they don't get screwed by letting him go to RFA. Everyone else would essentially have to go as well including Bill Walker and any other young players. Leaving Pierce. KG, Perk, and Rondo.

There is no MLE if you are under the cap. If we renounce Ray his only option to return would be with cap space or at the minimum after we hit the cap.

It is not going to happen.

I don't know what will happen with other guys but I expect Shaq's next uniform to belong to a team that he owns.

You guys are forgetting about cap holds, as bfb keeps reminding you.

Ray won't be relinquished, he'll simply be re-signed.

I knew the old CBA better, but I think that's wrong. If you renounce, you've renounced Bird rights.

We wouldn't be under the cap after the hypothetical signing of a big outside FA, plus Rondo getting his contract.

Rondo's next 8-figure contract will be his first one, a shoe deal possibly excepted. He is the one guy who is NO WAY going to fall on his financial sword for the team. Take $70 million instead of $80 million, or something like that? Sure. Take $5 million instead of $70 million? Uh, no.

Paul could realistically cut his salary by more than $5 million but less than $10 million in connection with an extension. But more than that? So that DWade doesn't have to take below-market rates? Doesn't seem very plausible ...

This was my suggestion from an older thread regarding Pierce and a contract extension.

Okay, I've an idea. What Ainge can do is say to Pierce that if he agrees to exercise his option after next season and sign a new deal for less. He could still recoup the total about of the salary in his final year. Currently, Pierce is due $19.7M next season and $21.5M the following year. Why not divide that last year's salary by three (as in a three-year season deal) and that will be his new salary. I think it comes to $7.1 or something. The problem is convincing Pierce that it's worth it to himself and the team. I mean this new deal is simply stretching out the current deal. I think they do this in the NFL when they restructure old deals of highly paid players.

I'm uncertain why so many Boston fans believe that Wade could be a serious option in signing as a free agent here. Why would Miami let him walk without an effort to retain him?

Not sure how to interpret his quote, but it sounds as if he could return to Miami or he wants to leave his options open and not declare anything right now.

"Is it a possibility me and LeBron will play together? It's always a possibility," Wade said after the Heat's practice Tuesday. "We're both free agents. Is it a possibility I'm going to New York? That's not a possibility in my mind."

As far as 2010 goes, if Wade is the player Ainge desires among the big name free agents. Everything is contingent on the immediate decisions regarding Ray Allen and Pierce contract wise. Ray's contract would need to be traded off or allowed to expire and determine a new lower contract if he decides to resign. Then Ainge and Pierce need to decide what's in the best interest of him and the team salary wise. Because Garnett's three-year extension is all guaranteed so Ainge doesn't have any flexibility with his contract to help alleviate anything in the same way you can with Ray and Pierce's (if he opts out) contract situations by 2010.
