KG out 2-3 Weeks Per Ainge
Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff February 21, 2009 12:59 AM
Celtics president Danny Ainge said early this morning that injured forward Kevin Garnett will be out 2-3 weeks with a posterior muscle strain of the right knee. The All-Star suffered the injury during the second quarter of Thursday's loss at Utah.
"Rest and ice for KG," Ainge said.
The Celtics could be interested in free agent forward-center Mikki Moore, who clears waivers on Monday after being cut by Sacramento, and Oklahoma City forward Joe Smith if he is ever waived. On free agents, Ainge said: "Nothing new."

Well the MRI was supposed to be scheduled for tomorrow so i don't know how concrete this is from Ainge, but I'm breathing a little easier at this moment.

In the long term, this is good, not as bad as it could have been. But in the short term thinking of selfish me, Crap, Cause I have tickets to Friday's game.
Oh well, like I said, it could have been worse for KG.

Kevin Garnett will be out 2-3 weeks after being diagnosed with a posterior muscle strain of the right knee late last night.
According to Danny Ainge, the injury is not considered serious. The Celtics [team stats] simply are taking a cautious approach with a player who pushes his limits.
Garnett initially was scheduled to be examined this afternoon, but he was instead checked when he landed in Boston last evening.
Ainge said the initial decision to have him leave the Celtics road trip was designed to protect Garnett from Garnett.
“The biggest reason we’re sending him out of town is that he wanted to play in the second half (Thursday) night,” Ainge said. “And he wanted to play against Phoenix (tomorrow), too. So we just decided the smart thing to do was to get his butt out of town to keep him from being tempted to play.
“I don’t think it’s a major thing at all, but we’re just going to be cautious . . .”
That is probably wise, considering this is not Garnett’s first incident with that knee. There were problems before Garnett went up for a Paul Pierce [stats] lob against the Jazz on Thursday.
“It’s been off and on,” Ainge said. “He said he tweaked it in Dallas (on Feb. 12) a little bit, too.
“He’s been playing through it and he wanted to do that again. But, again, we have no reason to believe this is major. He’d have been out there playing no matter what in a playoff game. We’re just being cautious with him.”

No reason to rush him back. Get him ready to make that final push and into the playoffs. Veal/Powe/Baby can hold down the fort for now.

the most common way in which the PCL is injured is by direct impact to the front of the tibia itself, usually when the knee is bent. This may occur in a front-on tackle or collision or when falling with the knee bent.

That's good news. It might work to our advantage down the road like it did last season. It sucks that KG might miss our matchups against Cleveland/Orlando and we will probably lose homecourt to Cleveland/LA, but it will be good for KG to get that rest and be fresh for the playoff run. This is an opportunity for Scal/Powe/Big Baby to step up and maybe even Bill Walker will get a chance to be part of the rotation for a few games. After KG comes back, we will also need to find a few games to rest Pierce IMO because he will be playing heavily in the playoffs.

Dam that sucks, I still dont understand how he hurt himself??
But look at it this way, the only tough games ahead for you guys is going to be Orlando, and the Cavs and they are both on your court. Hopefully our fans are your 6th man in those games.
Scal can step up like he did last year, I mean he's no K.G but look at it this way you guys are still in a good position and you guys get K.G back healthy before the playoff begin.

I think you guys will be fine without him. I mean, you lost against the Jazz, but even then that was against a pretty good team and on the road. It's better if he also gets some rest before the playoffs. I don't think you guys need home court this season as much as y'all did last season.

Hopefully this leads to more experimentation with the guys on the long side of the bench. We need a few wild cards (like Leon Powe was last year, for example) in this postseason.

Re: KG out 2-3 Weeks Per Ainge
We will be fine, just a huge sigh of relief that it isnt anything serious
The rest could even be good for us, and him tbh... probably really a 1 week injury and he'll be back in 2

Re: KG out 2-3 Weeks Per Ainge
An Orthopedic Surgeon Discusses KG’s Knee with Celtics Hub
Celtics Hub did a great job tracking down an orthopedic surgeon to help explain what is going on with Kevin Garnett's knee.
Here are some highlights:
Celtics Hub: There’s a feeling out there that “posterior muscle strain” is not a real injury, but just something that sports teams say to placate the media until they want to release the real information. So: Is this a real injury? And what exactly is it?
Dr. Rose: Yes, it’s a real injury. A sprain is an injury to a ligament, but a strain is a muscle or tendon injury. You can strain an achilles tendon, for instance, but you can’t sprain it.
Now, saying it’s a muscle strain in the back of the knee is a little vague. There are a lot of muscles that run behind the knee. There’s the hamstring muscle, for instance, but the far more common injury is a strain of the calf muscle–which starts above the knee and runs to the achilles tendon. About 95 percent of the time, the strain will be in the part of the calf muscle that runs along the inside of the leg–the gastrocnemius.
CH: The team is saying KG will be back in two or three weeks. Is that a reasonable recovery time?
DR: It really depends on how badly it’s injured. A very mild strain takes two or three weeks to heal. If it’s a moderate strain, it could be four weeks, and if it’s severe, it could take up to six weeks.
If you come back too soon, you run the risk of aggravating the injury and starting from ground zero.
CH: And with rest, is this something you can come back from and be 100 percent, or does it always linger?
DR: Absolutely, he can come back 100 percent. There are some muscle strains that linger a long, long time, but those usually involve the hamstring–and usually the portion that is up higher in the thigh, not behind the knee. They say you never get cured of a hamstring injury. But for calf strains behind the knee–those have the potential for a full recovery.
