Moore, Russell, Smith and Starbaby ohmy

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Sun Feb 22, 2009 2:11 pm

Walsh reported no progress in buyout talks with Stephon Marbury, who turned 32 Friday. New York Daily News (They will meet on Tuesday)

Sacramento waived forward-center Mikki Moore, and New York has been in on-and-off buyout talks with disgruntled veteran guard Stephon Marbury, who does not interest the Lakers. Los Angeles Times

The agent for forward Mikki Moore said he spoke with the Nuggets about his client, but the 11-year veteran probably is headed east. Moore, who averaged 3.5. points and 3.3 rebounds for the Sacramento Kings this season, was waived Thursday and reportedly will sign with the Boston Celtics. Agent Mark Bartelstein talked to the Nuggets this week; he said Moore likely will make a decision on his future this weekend. Rocky Mountain News

Ex-NBA swingman Bryon Russell is hoping to get back in the league, possibly with the Celtics. Russell and his agent, Daryl Floyd, have called several teams, including Boston, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, and Phoenix. The 38-year-old said he is in condition to play 15-20 minutes per game and has been away too long after letting a knee injury heal. Russell hasn't played since the 2005-06 season with Denver. "I want to help some playoff teams and get back into the game that I love," said Russell. "I work out every day. The rust part can get worked out just by playing with the fellas. I wouldn't take away from The Big Three [in Boston]. I would love to play with them. I have nothing to prove. I want to lend a helping hand with the loss of [James ] Posey by playing defense, knocking down jump shots, and basically playing the role of a Posey. I got some life in these legs. Now that the [trade] deadline is over, I think people are looking to add a veteran on their squad. I'm hoping I can provide that." Boston Globe

The prime target remains Joe Smith. And while he’s said he’s not looking for a buyout from Oklahoma City, there are different rumblings behind the scene. Word is strong that, after being sent to New Orleans in a deal that was ultimately reversed last week, he could be on the move. “I don’t know too much right now,” Smith told the Herald. “This week has been a crazy week all around, as far as being traded and the trade being rescinded. I don’t have too many answers right now about what’s going on in the office or what’s going on with my agent and talks with the team. Boston Herald

“I didn’t know what to think before the trade deadline. You heard so many things. And now it’s almost the same situation. I hear my name as far as being bought out and a lot of teams inquiring about it. But I really don’t know. I don’t expect anything to happen, but I’m not sure.” The 6-foot-10 Smith has done an admirable job of honoring his employer, but it did please him to know the Celtics would have such interest if he gets free. “That’s very flattering,” he said. “Obviously KG and I played together in Minnesota, and we talk quite often. And this is the defending champions. They accomplished a lot last year and this year, too. For them to feel that I can be a piece of their puzzle, that’s very flattering.” Boston Herald

No thanks Bryon Russell. The guy hasn't been good for 8 years and he was 30 back then. Way too old and broken down. If we are going old then we'd call more established veterans like Robert Horry, Reggie Miller, etc.

I'd rather bring in fellow 38 yr old Latrell Sprewell. At least he's been a solid player in more recent years.

Well, Bryon Russell would be our Lebron stopper...If we had more open roster spots I would be interested in bringing him in for a workout...

I don`t think we will sign Moore we will wait for Smith and Miki will sign for someone like the nuggets, hornets in the meantime...

also, hello to everyone. I've been checking this blog for quite some time, but I just checked in.

Hope we can add Smith and Marbury this week, though I am intrigued by Russell and Moore too.

Welcome, but what intrigues you about Russell? He hasn't been good since Stocktons nuts were popping out of his nba shorts.

Thanks :)

Well, I wonder if he can still defend as he used to. Also cause we are not very strong at the backup 3 spot. Russell used to be good, although i just remember MJ's famous dribble on him :P

There is NO WAY Russell is going to show up after 2+ years off and defend worth a damn - his age is less relevant that what the state of his game was before leaving and the fact that he's been off so long...I'd rather put Bill Walker and Scal at the back up 3 and take my lumps - Russell sux...

Agreed. I see no chance Ainge signs Russell. Russell just sees a hole on a title team (backup 3), misses the game and is wishfully thinking he can get signed by the Celtics. Reminds me of GP and Travis Best last year, basically begging to get on the Celtics through the media when the media was calling the PG position a hole for the Celtics.

After seeing what Jordan did to Russell in 1998, I don't even want to think about what Lebron/Kobe would do to Russell in 2009.

Get Mikki, i love that guy and he would be a nice upgrade to our bench and length

I"d be plenty happy with him if we dont get smith
hell yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Russell can shoot the 3 and play Defense if his game isnt gone

Smith is the Golden Child of course

I say we give Tony's minutes to Mighty Bill Walker

We desperately need more length to handle Cleveland, and great D to handle Lgay
Adding Smith, Moore, Walker for TA, and Stars would give us #18 fo sho

The guy we should really be taking a look at is Quincy Douby... Has to be one of the best names out there.

I like Moore on this team, but only if Joe Smith isnt going to be available, i wouldnt want to sign Moore then have Joe end up in Cleveland or something.

Hopefully Tuesday brings some better news on the Marbury front, he is still the best option available (well, if hes available)

Meanwhile the list of guys who retired or are out of the league, that i would preffer over Bryon Russell is so long that i gave up typing it

Is Douby really availbe? i guess so.... I'd take a look at him. I'm still praying for Smith over Moore, but if we have to settle for Moore its better than nothing. Smith is way better defensivly and has more to offer, but we need to get some big man depth immediatly.
