Rondo Is Still Key

Post#1 » by Celtics_85 » Sat Feb 28, 2009 1:22 pm

To this team repeating as champions. I will reiterate what I said last week that Perkins needs to come off the bench and Davis needs to start for Rondo to be at his best. Last night the Pacers laid off Perk to double Pierce and cover the lane so Rondo couldn't drive the basket. Teams can't do this if Davis is on the floor with Garnett, Ray, Pierce, and Rondo. I know the replies that Perk is a defensive monster, but this isn't the same defense as last year, and Perk can still get his minutes off the bench and still be a good defensive stopper.
I will say Perkins will be in for crunch time, and in close games I see Marbury being in at the end of games simply because he can hit a jumper and come playoff time he is a much better pick and roll guy. Rondo is still the man with Marbury being the finisher, and Perk should come off the bench, but also be a finisher.

The problem last night was that Perkins + Big Baby were starting together. Big Baby is improving his jumper, but he doesn't have great range or consistency yet. When you have KG or Scal in there with Perk, we are fine.

When Rondo doesn`t play with energy we play poorly. When he is in attack mode we can not be beaten.

It is really frustrating to watch Rondo play great one week and bad the next. In these two last games against LAC and IND he was very disappointing...

I really dont know how is it possible that he plays that way. It is like day and nigh looking at our tempo when Rondo is on and when of. I hate it when we play slow tempo and basically in the first 5 minutes you can see what kind of game will it be, as Rondo goes the Celtics go.

I think this must be a big mental and motivational thing. At home he shows up 8/10 times...but on the road it look like only great pg opponents motivate him to be aggresive and prove itself.Paul, Williams, Nash, Billips...

Now with Marbury here we have an option to substitute Rondo when he will be lazy.
