SF off the bench for the C's

Post#1 » by rambo_ortega » Mon Mar 2, 2009 11:51 pm

Forget joe smith or gooden! we have bb and powe who are playing well and are used to this system plus mikki moore looks like a good fit as a back up 7'0 center even after just a few games. Now, I still think the back up SF spot is something we need to address in going up against lebron and similar players like kobe and joe johnson in the playoffs. This is actually one of the lakers' strength, they have walton, ariza, odom, morrison who are all tall sf's and they help a lot. a tall 6'8 sf who has range is ideal for us or simply posey like. TA is just too short to defend those guys. i hope we can get bostjan nachbar since he's just playing in europe and i heard russell wants a comeback, we should try him in for a workout imo. what do you guys think? who are the available FA's who can fill this void for us?

To this day, I still don't understand why we didn't keep Darius Miles. I don't know who we could possibly get at this point.

I don't really understand it either. I mean, I know why they did it, since we had 16 guys and he was the only non-guaranteed contract, but then why would you bring in Sam especially since we simply traded him for a roster spot. I don't know how much he can help though, despite being long and athletic, isn't he a weak defender? We should have moved to pick him up one of the times he got cut after he proved he could play.

I doubt we bring anyone in. I mean, maybe Bonzi Wells, but he's not terribly tall and who knows who we'd cut for him.

EDIT: Before it gets brought up, you're kidding yourself if you think Antoine could provide anything to the team in terms of defense at the 3.

Yeh i would have liked to keep Darius around, he would have had a whole season with the team to learn the defense, get in shape and really.. i think would have contributed

How is TA too short to guard Kobe, Johnson, Wade? The only problem is Lebron, but I still think that TA can do a decent job on him with some help. It's a shame that TA will not be able to play in 3 out of 4 of our matchups against Cleveland to see how to fairs against Lebron. Theoretically, TA could be as effective on Lebron as Posey. Posey gives up a lot in foot speed that TA has. TA gives up a lot in height. Posey needs more help guarding Lebron on the perimeter because Lebron can go right by him, TA will need help on the post because Lebron can shoot right over him.

The problem with TA is offensively. He had a worse jumpshot then Rondo and that hurts the team when your wing has zero range and there's no way you can have Rondo and TA on the court at the same time. Hopefully, TA comes back a few games before the playoffs so we can see how a Marbury/TA combo works out with TA not having to deal with pg duties and having someone who can find him cutting to the hoop.

with scal out- possibly forever we need a contigency for the backup 3. Once steph gets up to speed he can spell ray at the 2 which will give ray more minutes at the 3 but it would still be good to have another person who can defend the 3 position and possibly spread the floor with 3 point shooting. Giddens and Walker are candidates and they are already on the team. If you go get someone you have to cut someone. So that means either they decide that scal's career is over and they seek a medical exception or they cut someone. I don't think danny wants to cut giddens or walker or pruitt so I think it's unlikely that they sign bonzi wells or ruben patterson or someone else out there. I think they give minutes to giddens and walker to see if they can help and then hope that scal or tony are ok by the time the playoffs start

Doc only plays vets that he trusts unless necessary. If Scal is out then it's going to have to be Walker for a small amount of time... while Pierce is ran into the ground.

At this point we don't even know if we'll have a healthy enough TA for the playoffs... which is very bad.

I don't know why people refer to Veal as a three. He most certainly is not. Too big, too slow and unathletic. The guy can barely dribble the ball while moving. As an ptempo big he has value, as a backup to Paul he's a joke.

Walker is the ONLY guy on the team, other than Ray, who could hope to fill in at that spot for us. Tony Allen certainly cannot, and that includes before his injuries. Either Walker gets to play, or Paul is going to collapse from exhaustion.
