who are the best color and play-by-play commentators?

Post#1 » by Mr.Monday Night » Sat Mar 28, 2009 5:32 pm

I think the hawks play-by-play guy is one of the best in the business.. and for color commentator I would have to say van Gundy... If you could have any color and play-by-play commentating team call the celtics, who would they be?

Commentators are too PC these days, that's why I appreciate having someone like Tommy calling the games. It's gonna suck when his broadcasting days are done.

We need to get rid of the commentators and hook the players up with mic's so we can listen to K.g talk trash all game. If that doesn't work we already have the best commentator team in Mike and Tommy.

Atlanta's guy was good but Mike's better. Also I though Dominique was as unbiased as it gets last night. Surprisingly honest.

Mike and Tommy, and when it's a national game I really like Hubie Brown, he's insightful and inbiased and actually talks about the game unlike TNT's crews... who just talk about Kobe no matter what game they are at.

I also forgot the play-by-play commentator of the old New Jersey nets (the white guy).. Loved hearing him call the game that Pierce scored 46 points on them in the second half.. very entertaining hahaha.. I also like the Heat play-by-play commentator (Remember the paul pierce layup game winner in miami a few years ago?) I just remember after Pierce made the layup as time expired him groaning for about 20 seconds straight.. pure entertainment

Best colored guy is Cedric Maxwell I think.

Van Gundy and Walt Frazier would make a great yin/yang duo of positive vs. negative. I also love when Al Troutwig calls Knicks games, because he is BRUTAl toward the Knicks when they are doing poorly.

Homerism aside, Mike and Tommy are two of the best. Nationally, I like the Breen, Van Gundy, Jackson combo. And Hubie Brown and Marv Ablert are great too.

Why is Cornbread not getting more love in this thread?

The man ate a huge part of his paycheck last season just for making fun of Tommy's antics while immitating him the whole time.... and he really didn't even try to pin it on Tommy for the most part.

The man's the most underrated color guy in all of sports. Someone refute this legitimately pleasse.

I love Max. He is my first choice to replace Tommy when he decides to hang them up. I dread the day if Donny goes full time. He bores the hell out of me.

PBP: Gorman, Gus Johnson, Marv, Harlan
Guys I hate: Grande: he's full of himself; whoever was calling that Pitt/Nova game last night (the crew wasn't even getting excited for an unreal game and I would be embarrassed if i was in charge over at CBS)

Color: agree with everyone on Tommy. we need someone to agree with us when the refs are bad and we must feel crazy when we are yelling at the refs and the announcers don't even acknowledge it. Van Gundy and Jackson are awesome, love Max, and Reggie Miller (don't ask me why)

Guys I don't like : Donny Marshall, Hubie, Doug Collins, the Cavs guy (Austin Carr I think).
