STarbaby and Rondo ...as the Season winds down.....

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Sun Mar 29, 2009 1:09 pm

Stephon Marbury took an important stride Friday night in Atlanta, drilling three 3-pointers and driving to the hoop without hesitation in the 99-93 win against the Hawks. The veteran guard continues to place importance on playing in extended stretches.“I was in rhythm, but you saw I also played a longer stretch,” Marbury said. “It’s a big difference when you’re on the court longer, but I understand my role and I understand what’s needed of me. When I get the opportunity I’ve got to seize the moment.

“Mentally, adjusting to coming off the bench is difficult, but I’ve got to understand that when I come in the game it’s like starting out the game for me, which it is.” . . .

While the Celts were granted a day off yesterday, Rajon Rondo, the point guard ahead of Marbury on the depth chart, went to the practice facility to get treatment on his sore ankles. It’s quite possible that Rondo will be given a game or two off soon to help him heal even further.

The whole Celtics philosophy should be pretty clear at this point - I emphasize SHOULD be. They were willing to let Garnett sit when the crucial Orlando game was in the balance. Why would you now not get Rondo's ankles healthy, continue to rest Garnett, and play Pierce and Allen under 30 minutes a game? Why wouldn't you play Bill Walker and Marbury maximum minutes to get them up to speed for the playoffs? The 3rd seed is sewn up - there is no chance to drop further in the standings. I'd like to hear Doc say to Marbury - "I need at least 10 good shots a game from you for the remainder of the regular season. If you go 0-10 in the first game, I need another 10 shots in the next game etc. "
There has to be purpose in these last 8 games. Start Pierce - play him 6 minutes and put in Walker. Time is short
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

Today would be a perfect game to let Rondo sit...Thunder suck horribly bad...Marb'z confidence would go boom high if he plays against a bad defense and gets some nice plays and shots...and like I said in the game post, Boston should come hard these next few games and beat some people down before the 4th and guarantee 12 minutes of rest for the guys in the last quarter....

We need to rest our starters as much as possible from now till the playoffs. I'm not worried about Orlando having the second seed because if healthy they won't beat us. Pierce, Ray, and Rondo need some rest for the playoffs, Rondo more for his ankles and Pierce and Ray for the minutes we will need from them in the playoffs.

This season has been a disator for managment help of a championship team.

From Danny tieing his hands to Eddie House.

To not only losing Posey but have nothing to supplement his role with.

To getting O'bryant as the length replacement.

To Danny waiting for Joe Smith to the point where he rejected Mutombo but not long enough to where he has to sign the putrid Miki Moore

To having the horrible injuries that expose the putrid support for a championship team...

in the end the results have been Pierce and Ray Allen with huge minutes. And our team fighting for the second seed.

There is no reason to let pride get in the way at this point. If we couldn't rest our stars during the season... the best we can do is rest them the last couple weeks before the playoffs. Pierce has played 38 mpg.. Ray Allen 37.7 mpg. Same number as LeBron James. Just rest them and accept third. We're an old team, and as we found out last year the playoffs are very, very long. We need to save our ship as much as we can.

Nothing worse than a team backing into the playoffs.

Play the team close to normal minutes, with a small reduction for the starters and some more minutes for the reserves, but don't chuck away what little momentum we have.

In fact we should be trying to gain momentum and hit the playoffs at full speed.
