Statistics fall apart when a similar number is arrived at by vastly different routes..."Mark West is the best shooter in NBA history!"

Well, at the end of the game it doesn't really matter how you scored your points assuming you scored them just as efficiently. If Rondo makes 5 layups on 7 shots and John Stockton hits 5 jumpers on 7 shots what is the difference? I guess it depends on what you hope to get from calling someone 'similar'. If all you care about are the aesthetic qualities of the players you're missing a lot I think.

It makes a huge difference because depending on the team an outside shooter (pick and roll guy) opens up different possibilities then drive and dish guy. <g> It also matches up very differently with various defenses. A team with great shot blockers will do much better at thwarting a Rondo then Stockton. Stockton would do well at international ball whereas Rondo would likely run into trouble. You can go on and on. Come on now with 13k posts you should know better.

In a nutshell you would run an entirely different offense with Stockton that would thrive with different players then you would with Rondo. Stockton and Rondo might have similiar statitics but they are hardly interchangeable and are not that similiar in the real world.

Yeah, like I said it depends on what you mean by similar. To me, when comparing two players all I really care about is how they performed and how much their performance meant to their team's chances of winning.

If the Cs ever become a serious running team, with sprinters on the wings, Rondo will be an MVP candidate.

Put another way, one year from now there will be a strong argument that Rondo is the best and most valuable player on the Celtics. He is that good, and probably the most charismatic player the Cs have had since Larry.

Thank you, Danny.

all of this is absolutely disgusting. cmon.

He does have a nice smile and a very smooth complexion, though.

It matters because one is more versatile than the other. Both Stockton and Rondo could drive and score...OK, fine...but Stockton has Rondo beat by a mile in the jump-shooting category, which makes Stockton's game much more versatile...clog the lane against Rondo and you've basically neutralized his offense...you can't say the same for someone who can shoot like Stockton...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
