Here is what I think. KG has an injury that can heal on it's own but would heal quicker with surgery Since this happened in February if he had surgery he would be done for the year. However the injury he has cannot heal 100% in 2 months and the celtics know that. I guess it is like an achilles injury. It will heal on it's own in about a year but with surgery it will heal in 6 months.
Had KG had this injury in say December I think he would have had surgery and be back by the play-offs. The problem is that KG hurt himself with 2 months left in the season leaving a dammed if you do and dammed if you don't situation.
At this point the celtics know full well that what is going on with KG's knee. What they are doing is trying to rest him in hopes the injury gets healed enough where as he will at least be serviceable in the play-offs. What do I mean by serviceable? Pretty much what you saw of KG the last 2 games he played as you mentioned above.
Now the celtics are not going to say that KG is done for the year. They are going to keep throwing the fans a bone by making KG a game time decision almost every game. So to answer your question as to whether KG will play in the playoffs. KG will play but it will only be about half the games and very limited minutes.

The Celtics and Cavaliers are very evenly matched when both teams are fully healthy. Where Boston does have an advantage is championship experience while Cleveland has homecourt. In the final analysis? If Boston's best players are healthy they still have a greater desire than Cleveland to win.
I'm not a doctor (where's Bobby Smith when you need him?). I don't know what to expect out of Garnett. The Celtics will have the benefit of an easy first round series to get KG back in shape or start finding out how to win in the playoffs without him (or without him at 100%).
Celtics-Cavs is no fait accompli for either side and anyone pretending one team has a clear advantage is just posturing. That is, unless Garnett can't come back -- but no one knows that for certain yet.
Regardless, I feel more confident that whatever team emerges from the East will win the Championship this year after the Lakers cruise through the West without a real challenge.

^^Good analysis. I still think when fully healthy, we're the better team...deeper, better defensively, and a better interior presence. I just don't want the C's to look too far ahead (they won't) that they'll cruise to the ECF...take care of business one game at a time...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

We are a FAR better team...a lot of fans somehow forgot that. Every player from last year is a better player, add real pg Marbury and that is it.

Well except the part about KG being hurt but I love watching Starbury

If KGs knee was so bad, why would we have brought him back for that 4 game stretch? We had to think there was a good shot he could keep playing without increasing his risk of reinjury. Resting him more seems to be a safety measure. Maybe he will need surgery after the season but I think we are handling this the best way possible. I think it is a hit or miss situation. We are fine unless he gets hurt again. If he does not I think we get a 90% KG for the entire playoffs.
