Well I'm very happy for Paul but I truly believe he deserved 1st team this year. It wasn't his best year as a pro but compared to Dirk, I felt he had a better year. BTW, how many times has Paul won 2nd team All NBA?

Yup congrats Pierce.

The media did the right thing by not voting in KG due to injury.

I wonder if Pierce would be third team if KG was healthy.

It's remarkably balanced by position this year. Except for the 3rd team, which has 2 PGs, the teams actually went C/PF/SF/SG/PG.

Usually they're overloaded with PFs, for instance ...

I'm not going to complain... It'll be tough to make the first team when you play on a team with Ray and Garnett, and your name's Paul Pierce. But, there were previous seasons, 1999 through 2007, that Pierce arguably deserved an All-NBA second team nod quite a few times.

Awesome, Paul. He belongs on the first team in lieu of Dirk.

I think he now has 2 third teams and 2 second teams in 11 seasons? Is that right? Does someone have a site to check that?

If not for carrying **** teams on his back, he would have 5 more nominations.

And I believe he was selected an All Star at least 7 and possibly 8 of his 11 seasons - he was not selected the year he was injured and missed 35 games in 06-07 and he was not selected his first 2 years in the league, but I think he was selected the other 8 years. It could be 7.

Add in 2 times second team all Pro (I think) and 2 times third team all Pro (I think) and a few more years where he should have been on one of the all Pro teams, and NBA Finals MVP, and 20,000 points at this time next year, and you have a first ballot HOFer.

And the casual bball fan only learned his name last year. Underrated beyond belief.

IMO Pierce should have been on the first team. No disrespect to Dirk, but Pierce simply does more for his team on the court.

I don't believe Pierce was ever named as an All-NBA second team prior to this season. This is his first time. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie first team (no All-Rookie game in 1999 due to lockout, but Pierce was a participant in the 2000 version of the game representing the Sophomore team) and has been named three times as an All-NBA third team. In my opinion, he could've seriously won Rookie Of The Year for the 1998-1999 season. He and Vince Carter's statistics were close. And he has been named to an NBA All-Star seven times. Unfortunately, he'd missed probably being named during the 2006-2007 season due to injury (Caron Butler was named instead as the reserve small forward). Arguably, should have had been named to the All-Star team as a reserve during the 2000-2001 season. Note: In 2001, Pierce was likely playing shooting guard for Boston earlier on in his career, so apparently he couldn't beat out Ray Allen, Allan Houston and Jerry Stackhouse as a reserve shooting guard. I don't know... Pierce deserved it ahead of Houston, in my opinion. Apparently, Sprewell was named as an injury replacement.

It's arguable. Dirk had a monster year and outside of him and Terry no one else did **** for that team, since Howard was injured for a long time.

Dirk lacks so much on defense, I just find if hard to give him a first team honor.

Thank you, Bonsa for the clarifications and edifications:

Hence in 11 seasons:

1) Second Team All NBA =1 (should have been First Team instead of Dirk in 08-09), Third Team All NBA = 3, should have been selected at least 3-5 other years if not for having to carry garbage teams into the eighth seed.
2) 7 All Star selections with 1 miss entirely due to injury in 06-07 and 1 arguable miss in 00-01.
3) Just missed ROY in 98-99.
4) Finals MVP in 07-08.
5) 2000 points in exactly 1 year, and Paul passes Bird in exactly 2 years - barring serious injury.
6) In last 8 years, most GW, clutch shots + assists in the NBA or close to it.

That is a HOF resume.

And, amongst wings, Lebron, Kobe and DWade get all the press now, and Wince and TMac used to get all the press. Paul is easily the most underrated SUPERSTAR in the NBA. And, if you ask casual fans, they only heard of Paul Pierce last year. And, if you ask fans on the General Board, they will say he is overrated and whines about fouls. And there remains a group of Celtic fans on this board (hiding in the weeds under a rock) ready to pounce if he screws up at all.

I see another banner in his resume before he is done. Logically, next year is our best chance, before Ray enters an assisted living facility and both of KGs' knees fall off. However, I will not give up on this year until the bitter end.

GO GREEN. GO TRUTH.
