Ainge: "We definitely need to improve our frontline..."

While the vagaries of the marketplace make it difficult for the team’s executive director of basketball operations to know exactly what his roster will look like in four months, Ainge was fairly blunt when asked about his priorities this offseason.

“Well, we definitely need to improve our frontline,” he said.

Look for them to check out point guards and wing defenders, as well.

“There are a lot of things I’m going to explore this summer,” Ainge said. “But a lot of things are based on timing and who might be available at the right time.

“Right now we’re taking a big look at the draft to see what might be there for us. We’re checking to see if there are any players we might want to trade up for.”

“Overall we’ve just got to get better,” Ainge said. “We want to keep the nucleus together and see what we can do to improve our team.”

I am glad he sees what we see! We need big men and a big wing defender!

I am doubtful we can get something useful in the draft. But if we buy a first rounder there might be someone who could help us...

He sees we need to improve bigs, and nucleus to me is just the starting 5 [as expected no ray trade].

I really would hate to have baby on for more then 4 mil a year.

True..but IMO Eddie is a big part of this team too. Without Eddie we would have had a really tough time against LA last season. He was huge when we won that away game to go up 3-1. Not to mention the fans love him, and he has that championship swag. lol.. And yes, don't overpay Baby. But if we can keep him, it would be great.

Rasheed or Mcdyess + Rob Swift (more Diop/Chandler than O'Bryant).

There was an interesting trade idea a week or two ago for Stephen Jackson, I think it was Scal/TA/filler.

Perk/Sheed-or-Dice/Swift
Garnett/Davis/Powe
Pierce/SJax/Walker
Allen/House
Rondo/Marbury

Our frontcourt gets massively better with those 3 additions.

Dream scenario: ATL disappoints, Joe Johnson looks likely to bail at mid-season, we trade Ray and 2 1sts for a chance to extend Johnson.

With the way the NBA Draft lottery played out Danny needs to go get KAman or Cambie

I think the stephen jackson trade is a disaster waiting to happen... He's 31 now and will be making 7 mil, 8 mil, 9 mil, and 10 mil over the next 4 seasons. He's also a little overated for a journey man...

I would say Camby, if he's open to coming off the bench. However, Kaman's contract is unattractive.

I'm curious to what the Clippers do now. I would trade the pick to acquire veteran help in other places. Because with all of that salary tied up in their front court. They need to think about moving one of them, Randolph, Camby or Kaman. On the other hand, having Blake Griffin, Thornton and DeAndre Jordan as your front court of the future isn't bad. And they've Eric Gordon in the back court. Maybe they could try to trade up from their selection using one of the aforementioned big men to get a chance at selecting Rubio.

This is exactly what I think we should do. It makes sense and its realistic in my opinion.

And why would Charlotte do this? I would rather have Boris Diaw, but a trade for him isn't happening either. Doesn't matter, Diaw's contract is for $9M for the next three season. Can't see Ainge taking on that when he didn't want to resign Posey who's signed for less.

It isn't up to Ainge, House's option is a player's option. I doubt that he would walk away from $2.8M guaranteed. I wouldn't be thrilled about a signing of either Kwame Brown or Gooden. No thanks. Brown's guaranteed $4.1M next season and, like House, he'll enter next season having a player's option that he probably won't exercise. As for Gooden, he doesn't play defense and might prefer to remain with San Antonio.

Now we trade Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine to Charlotte for Raja Bell. We let Eddie House go. Trading for Raja Bell gives us a solid lock down defender coming off the bench and Bell can also knock down that 3-point shot.

Lastly, we let Mikki Moore go also and sign maybe Drew Gooden or Kwame Brown (or someone else...these are my picks) for another part of the MLE.

Robert Swift will never be a Celtic. Can we all just move on at this point?

I think Charlotte might at least consider the trade since they will be receiving an expiring contract with Scal and Tony Allen is still a solid defender. I'm open about the options at center, but I thought those were the best avalaible.

I want Dice as our big addition. I also think we have to get Barnes or Ariza. Getting Barnes and Ariza will prolong Pierce and Ray Allen's careers' IMO. Tony Allen proves he can't be counted on. Barnes or Ariza fit what we need as a wing player off the bench. They both have expereince, can defend, rebound, and hit the 3.

Lol, Ariza IS NOT leaving LA. Period.

What part of McDyess saying: 'I'll play one more season with Detroit then retire' don't people understand?

He's not coming either. The only realistic choice is Rasheed but he won't play unless he gets paid and more than likely a team like Charlotte will sign him.

I don't want Ariza... And if Detroit can sign Boozer, then McDyess might change his thinking. I still don't see Rasheed Wallace as a realistic option for Boston. I can see him signing with the two teams he's open to signing with. Dallas or San Antonio. Ainge could've a better chance of trading for Camby than signing Wallace.

He hates the Celtics. You know Vujacic does, but Ariza really does and always has. He even hates the Red Sox and the Patriots. Ariza, 23, and Pierce, 31, are both Inglewood cats who grew up near The Forum and loving the Lakers, and whereas Pierce has made a nice life for himself in Boston, Ariza would rather break his foot all the way through than ever be a Celtic.

McDyess indicated that his disappointment with the Pistons' 2008-09 season may impact his decision on whether to stay or go.

"It was a disappointing season for me and for everyone in this locker room," McDyess said. "It will probably play a role in what my decision is. At this point I just want to win and at least compete. This season just seems like a loss for us."

If we could use expirings and youngins to get captain jack... maybe, just maybe you look at putting together something based around Ray and Kaman

but really, you keep the starting 5 and definately improve the back up center spot immediately
