Steph News

Post#1 » by Joekickass2008 » Sun May 31, 2009 11:57 pm

'Free agent guard Stephon Marbury displayed his interest in re-signing with the Celtics by keeping his Waltham apartment near the practice facility. He was at the facility, shooting, a day after the team's season ended. Swingman J.R. Giddens also stayed in town and is doing two-a-day workouts in Waltham. Giddens is hoping to impress the Celtics during the summer league after spending most of last season in the Development League . ' - GLOBE

How do we feel about this? I think it is great. I like the guy and think he wil be better next year.

Well...I guess this means that we will have a summer league team this offseason?

We need to use the MLE on an impact wing guy or a big off the bench, meaning to address the back up point spot we have very little money to play with.

Keep him, give him a full camp with the team and i think hes better then anything else we could pick up for the same price, he wasnt great... but the signs were good, he played D and passed the ball well

We could do much worse then re-signing Marbs. Hoping with Giddens and Walker to help us on the wings. And of course House picks up his over payed option.

As long as that means we use the full MLE on a Center. And if we don't re-sign Baby get a legit backup PF as well.

If Marbs would sign on for the LLE that'd be great at this point. We need firepower, and I'll be happy wherever we get it. Even if I still think he's a (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

Assuming we don't use Walker that much, we'll need a legit back-up SF (Matt Barnes, Ariza, or Jamario Moon?) and a PF/C.

I'm ecstatic about Steph playing for us next season, though.

The problem is that we can only get a full-MLE kind of talent at one of our three needs.

The best outcome is probably that Marbs stays for cheap, that Walker works out well, and that we land a prize at backup C with the MLE.

That said, MLE centers rarely work out well. :(

I would LOVE Barnes off the bench next year. I didn't even realize he was an unrestricted FA. He can play the 2, 3, 4. He can shoot the 3 and bring energy. I like it.

Ya I'm suprised a Matt Barnes thread hasn't started. He may be the best option at the backup wing slot. I like it a lot.

Need Marbury back. I strongly disagree that we can find a better backup value-wise on the FA or trade market. Bring him back ASAP.

1) Marbury is in better physical shape than he has been in years.

2) Marbury will be a lot better with preseason training with the team.

3) He wants to be on the team even with a bench role.

1. He was supposedly in great shape last year, but he definitely seemed to lack the explosiveness of old.

2. Really? That's what they said about Cassell too. I'm sorry, but in all that time with the team he didn't come CLOSE to fitting in. The only time he contributed was when he went Marbs-on-5 and actually made some shots, which was a rarity.

3. But he still thinks of himself as a "6th man" and probably expects 20-25 min/gm. I'm sorry, but he's not that good anymore. What happens when he becomes the 3rd string PG?

1) He was in great physical shape, but didn't have time to get in basketball shape.

2) Sam Cassell isn't even in the same category. Please hater, get real.

3) You spoke to him? He told you he thinks of himself as the 6th man? He is good enough to start. Period.

4) Wahhhhhh Marbury haters wahhhhhh

I am all for as little turn over as possible. I would love for this off season to be sign Baby and find a way to bring back Marbury and sign McDyess or Sheed, maybe bring back Powe on the cheap while he rehabs.

Marbury showed no signs of struggling with his role and he has made plenty of money he seemed to actually be having fun. He can do better than the minimum if he stays in Boston and he may do better in the market and he may be totally screwed depending on what is open what team's are willing to spend. You have to imagine it is risk when you have totally alienated the 4 previous organizations you played for and some of those people have moved to other clubs it limits your options when you are still unproven on the court. My guess is there is really only a half dozen teams that would be interested in Marbury anyhow.

Matt Barnes sucks the last thing this team needs is a crappy back up wing player we need length athleticism and big men and Barnes isn't even a bad impersonation of those.

if he takes the lle exemption, sure, love to have him back. MLE needs to be saved for an impact player at backup center or sf. House/pruiit, JR can all play some back up pg

Love to see him back. Ballhandling was never an issue for us with Marbury backing up Rondo. Teams couldn't press us the way Detroit did with Lindsey Hunter the previous year, and hope to produce sloppy turnovers. I fully expect Marbury's offensive game to return to form next year. Shots that weren't going down for him this year, will start falling next year.

I think the fact that Marbury never got to play with KG this past season may be a motivating factor to some degree. Steph came here with a mission to reunite with KG and try to win a title. He never got that opportunity, so I think he has some unfinished business on his mind.

from the few min. I watched him on TV, Steph just lacks the shooting touch overall. He was directing the offense just fine, and defending very well. With training camp and regular min., he might return to his previous form and not much worse than Rondo.
