The celtics need a backup center, whether they resign big baby and powe or not they are still desperate to find someone with some height to come in off the bench behind perkins
They can search in free agency but this years class basically only has two true centers that could help them next year, and that they have a realistic shot at getting (that counts out birdman and gortat)
those two guys are rasho nesterovic and rasheed wallace, it would take the full MLE to get sheed for sure, its not quite sure what it would take to get rasho, or if he would even be of benefit to the C's next year
anyways if you are not able to land one of those two than your basically left with signing or taking a power forward in the draft, now this would not be all bad as there are some guys like mycdess, joe smith, etc. that could help them but i would still prefer that the C's at least explore the possibility of adding another true center, one way to do this is through a trade
So my proposed trade is that the Celtics give up: Scal(hopefully in a deal where he is bought out and returns) Tony Allen, and Bill Walker
For Brendan Haywood of the washington wizards
now in this trade the C's would be able (and willing im sure) to give up pruitt and giddens as well if need be
I know a lot of you are big bill walker fans, and there are even some gabe pruitt lovers too, but this trade would be too good to pass up as it would fill our backup center need, get rid of tony allen, and free up some roster spots, while still preserving are MLE

Re: Trade Idea
Losing Bill isn't worth Haywood and Washington would never trade him. He's their defensive anchor. Just look how bad their D was last year without him.

I disagree with this assumption. No doubt Rasheed is the cream of FA C class. However there are a couple of other realistic options beyond Rasho:
Zaza Pachulia - Atlanta has a bunch of FA so I doubt he's high on their list of priorities. He's still only 27 and has shown to be serviceable.
Jason/Jarron Collins - He's a stiff but he's a decent defensive center. Provides zero offense though.
Chris Wilcox - I don't know if NY would let him go though
Robert Swift - is he worth it? We know Danny liked him in the draft. Injury history and limited production.
Adonal Foyle - Doubt Magic re-sign him. Should be serviceable enough as a backup.
Stromile Swift - reclamation project
There are some options at C in the FA pool this year, maybe more than SF. I think we'll be able to sign somebody and hopefully that somebody produces more than Patrick O'bryant. Think about it, if he had panned out we'd be set at C right now. We'll probably make another signing like that is my guess.

I'd give Giddens and Pruitt, but not Bill Walker. He'd be a nice bruiser off the bench. We need some toughness in the 2nd unit. Right now we have too many pussies off the bench.

I've always liked Haywood. If we could get him for that package I'd do it. I'd like to keep Walker too but you can't just give up crap and get a serviceable 7 footer.

Not give up bill walker for a guy that could help us win a title next year? that would not make any sense to me, yea bill is a hard worker, and athletic, and plays tough D, but he can't shoot, is short for the position he plays, and is an offensive liability, no way you kill the trade if they are willing to do it because of bill walker
I think Zaza will be high on atlanta's to do list this offseason, besides marvin williams and mike bibby he is there best free agent, and he is there best serviceable big man besides al horford- why would they let him walk
and as for the rest of those guys, they wouldn't be my first option for free agent centers, that were not mentioned, i rather get someone like nenad kristc or chris mihm then end up with calvin booth or jaron collins
Washington might give him up its not like they exactly have anything going for them, they should be looking to blow their whole team up and start fresh
