Not only can't Ray create quality shots for others but those roughly 4.5 shots per 36 minutes that Ray is taking could be better utilized by the team. Now add in the mid-range shots that teammates are taking off of plays designed for Ray as secondary and third options. So we are looking at roughly 9-10 possessions, per 36 minutes of Ray Allen on the floor that neither create space nor are very conducive to foul drawing. That is even before you get into the other possessions were Ray is floating into plays that don't involve him or when he occupies an area that hinders the play being run.
This is nonsense. Ray Allen is 4th in FT attempts and leads all the regulars by a lot in TS% at 63% there is rarely a better shot taken by anyone else.
The irony in what you are saying, whether you realize it or not, is you feel Kevin Garnett is an offensive liability to this team. His game is essentially pick and pop 2pt jumpers that weaken the team significantly on the offensive glass and rarely result in a trip to the FT line and add to that he plays a low post power position. Obviously this isn't true because KG shoots 53% from the field so it makes it good offense, Ray Allen shoots 55% from inside the 3pt arch.
Look you have been grinding this axe for over a year now. It didn't make much sense last season and it makes no sense now. The player you speak of, this catch and shoot knock down 3pt shooter doesn't really exist, not to the extent that they could replace Ray Allen in the offense. With Garnett out of the line up it was extremely difficult for Ray or Eddie to get open looks now you want to use a player who is less mobile and capable they will simply be run off the line.
