And there is no way Rondo is involved in any deal (Ainge is not trading his guy) unless a legit young NBA star is involved.
How exactly is Rondo anymore Ainge's guy than Al, Delonte, or Ryan? Or Jiri, Marcus, or Gerald for that matter?
I have heard him talk about what happened with the Big 3 at the end of the 80's and he knows what all the options on the table were for Bird, Parish, and McHale were and what coulda and shoulda happened. He always ends these conversations with a joke about how he was the one traded and everyone laughs. But the truth was on paper Ainge was poised to be the next star. He was avg 18 ppg and the premiere perimeter shooter in the game. While maybe Boston would have been better with Detlef Shrempf instead of what was left of Kevin, one thing Red was right about was trading a 29 year old Danny Ainge and not committing to him as his primary star. While you would have hoped for more than Joe Kliene and Ed Pinckey, Ainge had one more season of All Star caliber play and he become back up player. There is as much a lesson to be learned there as there is with holding on to the great ones too long, is confusing good with great. Rondo is good and right now there is a lot of people confusing him with great.
