Acquire the second pick, draft Rubio and do what you want

Post#1 » by campybatman » Mon Jun 22, 2009 6:42 pm

Ainge can hold all the cards with the second pick, drafting Rubio. In other words, Memphis is in an interesting position, they could conceivably control (or dictate) the draft from there on. Imagine if Ainge could put Boston in that position? Ainge has to get that number two pick and parlay it into that which benefits the Celtics this season. Remember that the fifth pick (Jeff Green) was key in the trade with Seattle to acquire veteran Ray Allen. Perhaps, Boston could be so fortunate again. There are enough teams right now selecting after Memphis that would likely bid against each other for the opportunity to have Rubio. Maybe you don't get another star veteran, but there could be players available from these teams that might shore up Boston bench.

Those with ESPN and ESP believe Spanish 18-year-old point guard Ricky Rubio has the best chance of electrifying a team and its fan base. If the Griz don't select Rubio, he won't slide past Sacramento at No. 4.

NBA types have waited four years for Rubio to become draft eligible. His size, flair for the game and aggressive defense are said to be more than enough for talent evaluators to overlook Rubio's inconsistent jump shot.

The large buyout (reportedly $6 million) Rubio is attempting to settle with his Spanish team no longer appears to be a major concern for league executives.

"I've said all along that, once he stayed in the draft, he's going to play in the NBA," Wallace said. "I expect to see Rubio in an NBA uniform next season."

Potential trades, which might include the No. 2 overall pick, still are in play for the Grizzlies as the draft nears. A team insider described the Grizzlies' chances of consummating a deal as "50-50" on or before Thursday.

I don't know. What would it take? Not interested in Perk being traded for a PG.

If it's Rondo? I think we could get better value trading him for a big man, or in this stunning revelation, let him play this season and decide what to do next year?

If Chris Paul wants out of New Orleans, Rondo as a return chip would be in play. That's what I would like to do.

Rubio? Just don't see how it gets us better for next year.

Well, the difference between Rondo and Miller/Kidd/Bibby could be quite negligible as Rondo's specific talents aren't fully utilized on a team w/ a big three such as ours, and our roster would be best served with a Point featuring a respectable J (Rubio's at 19 is still better than Rondo's). If Rubio's ceiling is perceived to be much higher than Rajon's and without the attitude concerns, you make this trade.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

Didn't you just answer your own question? If there are a number of teams drafting below Memphis who are bidding against each other why would Boston's offer come out on top and, further, it's not like Boston wouldn't be bidding against those same teams

That is crazy talk. Rondo is the perfect pg for the BIg 3 it is post Big 3 that is a concern. Rondo's ability to impact the game in every other aspect besides scoring is what makes him so valuable, Rondo's jump shooting is only an issue when the 7' wearing #5 isn't playing.

As for attitude I am not really concerned about the kid who is asked about making the All Star team and says he wants to make the All Defensive team and does it.

But how can you look at a guy trying to dictate were and were he isn't going to accept their millions to play while suing his current team and figure he isn't going to have an attitude problem?

I mean some of them turn out to be great like Kobe, but I don't think it is a stretch to say maybe he has a bit of an attitude. But I think it is pretty universal that you spend a bit too much time in front of the mirror if you are willing to turn down someone's 20 mil before they even offer it to you.

I guess I can't really get by Yi and Steve Francis besides Kobe but does anyone know if he is using Yi's chair in his workouts? Bet he blows right by it.
