ehhh...I just hope the owners aren't gonna cheap out on us again----we need someone like Rasheed/Puchulia/Gortat/Birdman with the MLE...none of this Mikki Moore League minimum CRAP.

Re: Dahntay Jones
Yeah, im all for exploring the cheap options... but we need to use the MLE and get an impact guy, one or two other low money signings (like Jones) are all well and good, as long as the MLE is put to good use on someone

Re: Dahntay Jones
I don't know why we waived him in the first place. I guess the higher ups didn't realize Tony Allen stunk worse then a skunks ass. However I still wouldn't want him starting on our team. We could do better if we are looking for a starter to take Ray's spot.

Celtics intersested in Dahntay Jones?
According to Stepthen A. Smith, the Celtics are interested in getting Dahntay Jones.
We had him in camp and I kinda of wanted to keep him before we cut him. He played ok in the playoffs. But I really don't want him. I'm tired of TA, but TA is better than Jones. Jones would not have made the rotation with House playing the back up SG.
J.R. Giddens is better than Jones IMO but for most reason the Celtics don't like J.R. I think we can do better than Dahntay Jones.

Sorry, I didn't see there was a thread about this already, it was at the bottom. Merge please.

Re: Dahntay Jones
It depends. He's a vet min kind of player, imo. Anything more would be a mistake.
He's a guy who always seem to underperform relative to his talent. But he seemed to be coming around in DEN. Maybe our coaching staff can get him into a solid role that he can contribute in. He is a strong defender, which TA is too, and hopefully he doesn't continually foul guys on long jumpers like TA does.

Re: Dahntay Jones
TA is better than Jones. Everyone forgets that TA was one of our top players off the bench in the regular season. All that ended when he got Marbury.
By getting Marbury towards the end of the regular season, they finally got a play making back up PG. With Marbury backing up Rondo, there was no room for House at that position. So House moved over to SG on a regular basis. That left no more minutes for TA.
I bet anyone that had TA gotten the same minutes as Jones in Denver, the Nuggets would have been a better team. TA would have given Kobe more problems than Jones, who couldn't stay with Kobe at all.

Yes healthy and mixed into the rotation TA is much better then Jones. This is a non-move. If this is the kind of move DA makes in the offseason the C's are not setting themselves up for continued success.

This is the key and it'll never happen. TA cannot be off this team fast enough for me, however, I won't be too tickled if Jones is his replacement.

Re: Dahntay Jones
On the TA-Jones debate:
If both players switched places, I think Tony Allen in Denver would be regarded as the better player by far. The situation is nearly perfect for Tony.
But in Boston Dahntay Jones might be the better fit. As our backcourt right now is constructed, Tony matches up very bad with Rondo, as both can't shoot and very bad with House as both can't handle good enough. Dahntay is slightly better with Rondo on the court.
On a possible signing:
Smith is over his head again. Jones is not the answer to all our problems obviously. It would just be a fix of the SG backup position, not a solution for an impact 6th man. To rest Pierce & Allen we need more than Dahntay Jones.

Tony Allen is not part of the rotation or equation at this point. There is no way he's better than Jones. Not even close.

^ This is the same guy we cut. Now he is a class above TA? The hate for TA on this site astounds me. My guess is that TA is to be included in some upcoming trade so that's why we might bring in Jones. On the same team if TA is healthy he will beat him out just like he did before.

TA is a nonentity. If he gets ''unloaded'', it will be as cap ballast; if he gets kept, he probably won't be in the rotation. I don't think he will affect any roster decisions in any other way.
He can guard 2's, but his height precludes him from being the backup 3 we need and makes him not that useful against LeBron or big 2's like Kobe.
He can drive sometimes and can be useful off the bench when nothing else is working...but his lack of a jumpshot makes him pretty useless when the rest of the team is clicking. Offensively, he's really more of a good player on a bad team kind of guy - as evidenced by the best stretch of his career, which came during that 20 game losing streak, and before his injury.
Dahntay Jones managed to get into the starting lineup of a pretty good team - apparently he's improved a lot in the last year. If TA were in Denver, I'd imagine JR Smith wouldn't be a 6th man, or that we'd see a lot more of Kleiza et al.

George Karl is the kind of coach that will start a guy to send a message. That this is the KIND of player they want irregardless if they have the talent to really deserve that. I still think Jones is a bum and wouldn't command those minutes on our team. He hasn't really improved - just gotten more burn.

jones was just here, couldn't make the team for like 2 years in a row. I couldn't figure out how he got mins on denver, he's not that good. I sure don't want to spend real money on him.

What about for pretend money? If he is better than any of the opher bench players then sign him cheap if we can....TA has been a failure the last few seasons....JR a no show....give some one else a go...at least he can fill in for Ray Ray from time to time in the starting line up.
All time favourite Celtics: Bill, Dave C, LARRY, Kevin, X, Reggie, Alla, Toine and Paul.

Re: Dahntay Jones
There's players just like Dahntay Jones available in the d league, our old friend Justin Reed for example. Same goes for Quinton Ross. If we need someone like him, I'd do it later in the season, when we have expended all of our other options.
