One winner in the Shaq trade = BBD

STRONG post defenders just became that much more important.

And by the way, Davis is a pretty reasonable defender on Howard as well.

Now all Ainge has to do is re-sign Big Baby. Man, I hope Ainge doesn't screw the team like he did last year. :x

Dang, this should be interesting. They have more fire power now. And they gave up a bag of beans.

I wonder what Ainge can get for us, for a bag of beans :D

How did Ainge screw the team last year? We won 60+ games, and was 1 win away from the Eastern Conf. finals, all with an injured KG on the bench. You cant wrong him for thinking TA can replace Posey. So if he resigns BBD and he has a horrible season next year, if that too his fault?

He screwed the team but assembling one of the worst benches, talent-wise, of any contender in recent memory...

But we basically had the same bench that we won the title with ... Just swap Posey for TA, Cassel for Marbury, and PJ Brown for Mikki Moore... Eddie House, Powe, BBD, Marbury, TA, Scals, and Moore is not as bad of a bench as your making it seem. Was Clevelands bench of Gibson, Wally, Pavlovic, Wallace, and Joe Smith any better? Personally, I'd take Powe and BBD over Wallace and Smith. Eddie House defiently over Gibson. Just my opinion.

You do understand, to get better guys last year - we would have had to give them multi year deals. The guys last year weren't all that good... and we would have been stuck with them THIS YEAR too. It more or less would have closed the window.

I know, but still, raise your hand if you truly thought a bench of BBD, House, Powe (the only legit bench players we had), Scal, TA, and Cassell was title-contending material when the season started last year...

Are you kidding? Posey was excellent and PJ Brown was solid. TA and Moore were useless. And even if TA had played well, he is too short to guard Kobe and LeBron.

We basically had the same bench that we won the title with - except for losing the 1st two guys off the bench without any decent replacement!

We didn't have a capable backup 3 when our primary rivals were centered around 6'8" swingmen.

We didn't have a capable backup 4/5 over 6'8".

In a sense we are lucky that KG's injury rendered these problems moot. It reminds me of how Joe Borowski didn't even get a chance to blow the '07 ALCS vs the Red Sox.

Anyway, BBD is ok against Shaq...but Shaq is so tall in addition to being bulky, I still don't think BBD is ideal. Shaq offers matchup problems from both height and bulk standpoints; thank goodness his athleticism is gone! He wasn't the most dominant player ever for nothing.

This definitely helps Davis' case but the team still won't overpay for him and they certainly won't go for a long term-deal either. The Celtics have a lot of needs and need some players who can add some versatility. If Davis could lighten up on his feet and defend the Rashard Lewises of the world and also be able to use his strength to defend the big interior centers he'd be so much more valuable.

The fair comparison is

A. Ainge started one season w/ Posey and Pollard and the next season w/ O'Bryant and Cassell
B. Ainge had mid-season pickups one year of Brown and Cassell and one year of Moore and Marbury

Posey >>> Cassell 2.0. Brown >> a bronze statue of Red Auerbach (seated) > Moore

The rest was a rough wash.
